Silky in texture but a bit backward and medicinal, even rustic, offering cranberry, spice and herb flavors and a slight peppery greenness. I find this a bit herbal and shallow for grand cru. Needs time but will it blossom and fill out? Nicely delineated and aromatic but lacks the depth and full ripeness of the best wines here in 2014. A completely different aromatic profile is present here with its notably more elegant and expressive nose of various floral elements that include lavender and rose petal along with various spice and red berry fruit scents. There is a terrific sense of underlying tension to the precise, racy and focused middle weight flavors that are notably finer than those of the Clos de la Roche but at the cost of being notably less powerful. I very much like the superb persistence and fine balance and even though the tannins are quite fine they are also notably dense and as such this too is absolutely going to require plenty of patience.Inc. Dujac’s 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes is simply wonderful. For some reason, I don’t buy the Combottes regularly. Tasting this bottle makes me wonder why. Lifted, perfumed and sensual, with striking layers of dimension, the Combottes does what only Pinot can do, and that is convey richness without weight. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru from Dujac was one of the talking points of the tasting. It performed extremely well compared to its peers (note that this is a domaine bottling and not Dujac Fils & Père). It has quite an intense bouquet with signs of some whole bunch addition but backed with plenty of dark red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with good body and substance, well-judged acidity, perhaps with the whole bunch defining the wine more than the terroir at this early juncture, although that will not always be the case. Give this time in bottle if you want the birthplace of this wine to express itself. Dujac lovers should have some of this in their cellars—very, very impressive. Tasted September 2017.Inc. This is still quite backward as you would expect, but unfurls to reveal veins of orange rind and even a hint of tangy marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied with a grippy entry. This is perhaps the first Malconsorts from Dujac where I really notice the backbone and density, perhaps the first where I can really commend the typicité that floods through on the finish. The 2014 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru was actually one of my favourite reds of 2014, smitten at first sight I guess. It has a very classy bouquet, very well defined and floral in nature. This is elegant and very refined, the exuberant predisposition of Bonnes-Mares discretely contained, buttoned-down for now. The palate is very well defined with lace-like tannin. It feels so supple in the mouth with a touch of cassis towards the deceptively structured finish. This is one of the best Bonnes-Mares that I have tasted from Dujac.In Bond£1,116.00 -

A completely different aromatic profile is present here with its notably more elegant and expressive nose of various floral elements that include lavender and rose petal along with various spice and red berry fruit scents. There is a terrific sense of underlying tension to the precise, racy and focused middle weight flavors that are notably finer than those of the Clos de la Roche but at the cost of being notably less powerful. I very much like the superb persistence and fine balance and even though the tannins are quite fine they are also notably dense and as such this too is absolutely going to require plenty of patience.In Bond£9,122.68 -

Healthy full red. Compelling soil-driven scents of raspberry, coffee, underbrush and smoky minerality. Wonderfully rich, smoky and deep but also with the vintage's sappy, floral lift to its raspberry and strawberry fruit flavors. Dujac’s 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes is simply wonderful. For some reason, I don’t buy the Combottes regularly. Tasting this bottle makes me wonder why. Lifted, perfumed and sensual, with striking layers of dimension, the Combottes does what only Pinot can do, and that is convey richness without weight. Captivating and so inviting, the 2014 is fabulous on this night.In Bond£446.00 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru from Dujac was one of the talking points of the tasting. It performed extremely well compared to its peers (note that this is a domaine bottling and not Dujac Fils & Père). It has quite an intense bouquet with signs of some whole bunch addition but backed with plenty of dark red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with good body and substance, well-judged acidity, perhaps with the whole bunch defining the wine more than the terroir at this early juncture, although that will not always be the case. Give this time in bottle if you want the birthplace of this wine to express itself. Dujac lovers should have some of this in their cellars—very, very impressive. Offers lovely sweetness and breadth for a 2014 village wine, with brown spices dominating the middle palate. The 2014 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has a detailed bouquet that stops you in your tracks. There is genuine mineraité and tension already locked in here, aromatics that are beautifully focused and almost Richebourg-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, succinctly interwoven new oak so that you barely notice its presence. It gently fans out towards the poised, tensile finish and by that time you are already won over by this outstanding Grand Cru from Dujac.In Bond£2,978.00 -

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru has an intense bouquet with open-knit wild strawberry, raspberry and subtle ferrous notes. This is still quite backward as you would expect, but unfurls to reveal veins of orange rind and even a hint of tangy marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied with a grippy entry. This is perhaps the first Malconsorts from Dujac where I really notice the backbone and density, perhaps the first where I can really commend the typicité that floods through on the finish. The 2014 vintage in Burgundy has been rung in with a great deal of local optimism and excitement. After three successive vintages of incredibly low yield and quantities, the growers of the Cote de Nuits were ready to welcome an easy vintage and the chance to make a bit more wine. Easy seemed to be the word on everyone's lips as the growing season presented few climatic challenges and viticultural decisions were by and large straightforward.
Tasting the wines from barrel, we quickly learned that the reds were easy to taste, forward and classical, while the whites were truly remarkable. More than one winemaker came forward to declare that 2014 saw the best white wines in a lifetime. Good levels of acidity kept the bundles of ripe fruit lovely, while the overall character of the vintage was in such good balance that the wines will be approachable from a relatively young age, while the best will age very well indeed.
In general the Cote de Nuits fared a bit better than the Cote de Beaune by virtue of having escaped the savage hail which effected the latter. As much as the hail devastated yields, it fortunately did not impact on quality and many producers managed to make some truly exceptional wines with great forward fruit and firm structure.
Overall this is a vintage with a lot to offer and for Burgundy lovers, it is one to celebrate. Each appellaton was true to style and the winemakers had room to impart their own subtle influence on the finish product. Freshness, flavour and verve are the keyword this year and they come together in bundles.
