The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts from Domaine Leroy is predictably superb, soaring from the glass with a deep bouquet of black fruits, hoisin, smoked duck and rich spice. On the palate, the wine is extraordinarily concentrated, full-bodied and ample, with grand cru depth and dimension, a fine-grained chassis of tannin and a long, saline finish. Compared to the lavish—even decadent—Aux Brûlées, Les Beaux Monts is more reserved, its stony structure asserting itself more prominently, its mid-palate more taut and less expansive: it will need more time in the cellar.Inc. (6x75cl) 2015The Lignier Michelot Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Aux Charmes 2015 is a highly coveted boutique wine from the historically rich vineyards of Burgundy, France. Produced by the prestigious Lignier Michelot estate, this nectar stands among the great Burgundy reds, exuding quality and class.
Meticulously hand-harvested, this Premier Cru wine offers an intoxicating mix of lush red cherry, spiced plum, and wild berry flavours, complimented by subtle hints of coffee and sweet vanillin oak. 2015 was an exceptional year for Burgundy wines, with a warm summer and mild autumn, resulting in a perfect balance of intensity and freshness. The Lignier Michelot Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Aux Charmes 2015 is a testament to this, exemplifying opulence with every sip. Sip it slowly to revel in its finessed, complex structure.

The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru comes from 0.30-hectare in the Montluisants area supplemented by some purchased fruit from 72-year-old vines in the lieu-dit Les Chenevrières. It has a very pure and powerful bouquet with layers of small dark cherries, blueberry and violet aromas, a little richness of the growing season showing through via a touch of glycerin. The palate is medium-bodied with a bit if sinew on the entry. This dovetails into a structured mid-palate with a pinch of white pepper lingering on the finish that has a real peacock's tail of flavors, reinforcing its grand crus pedigree (just in case.) This is a sublime expression of the vineyard from Virgile Lignier.Inc. VAT£1,465.92 -

Wine Advocate (93-95)
Virgile Lignier regards this vineyard as the quintessential premier cru of the appéllation. The 2015 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Faconnières, which includes 40-50% whole bunches, has a very complex and sophisticated bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, very precise and detailed with black cherries, raspberry preserve, dried rose petals and tangible cold stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-judged acidity that imbues this premier cru with heightened harmony and focus. It flows towards the finish with wonderful tension and frisson on the finish. This is an outstanding Morey-Saint-Denis from Virgile.Inc. VAT£127.19 -

(from vines in Les Chenevery, Très Girard and Les Cognées, the latter site on the other side of the Route Nationale; 80% vendange entier; also harvested after the rain): Higher-pitched on the nose than the Rue de Vergy, offering scents of kirsch, violet and minerals. Juicier in the mouth too, displaying good penetration but modest flesh to its black fruit and violet flavors. The slightly drying finish hints at bitter chocolate.Inc. VAT£89.33 -
Vinous (89-91)
(Boillot has eight village parcels covering 2.5 hectares, which makes this his largest single cuvée): Bright, dark red. Very pure aromas of blackberry, black cherry, licorice and violet. Youthfully tight and primary in the mouth, with intense flavors of dark berries, licorice and spices firmed and carried by brisk acidity and a solid tannic spine. Finishes with a suggestion of hard candy.Inc. VAT£582.80 -
Vinous (96-99)
Healthy dark red. Knockout pungent aromas and flavors of pomegranate, red raspberry, blood orange and high-pitched spices, with the 33% whole-cluster treatment contributing an element of peppery lift. Boasts a nobly fine-grained texture but it's hard to describe this wine as silky owing to its almost painful penetration on the palate. Great éclat and precision here. Finishes with incredible tactile breadth and cut, the wine's rising, palate-saturating flavors of red berries, spices, flowers and minerals blowing past its firm but utterly refined tannins. This dazzling Musigny already displays incredibly heady, complex perfume but will need a decade or more to approach its apogee in bottle.Inc. VAT£3,404.42 -

Good medium red. More complex and vibrant on the nose than the village wines I tasted from the Côte de Nuits, offering musky scents of black raspberry, licorice, menthol and violet. Then surprisingly fine-grained and sweet in the middle palate if still a bit youthfully compressed, communicating an impression of medicinal reserve to its rich dark fruit, spice and violet flavors. Way longer than the village wines, with more refined tannins and subtle floral lift. This lively midweight is showing the dark fruit side of the vintage. I may be underrating it today.Inc. Jadot's 2015 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is stunningly good in the 2015 vintage, bursting from the glass with a primary bouquet of candied red cherry, plum, rose petal, coniferous forest floor and a hint of the black truffle to come, judiciously framed by new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and deep, with wonderful concentration and depth, its generous core of ripe fruit underpinned by bright, racy acids. The 2015 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has an open red cherry, crushed strawberry and sea spray-scented bouquet that perhaps does not quite have the complexity, nor the intrigue of the Mazis-Chambertin at this stage. Tasted blind, Jadot's 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques confirmed the seriousness it displayed earlier this year, unwinding with aeration to reveal a youthfully reserved bouquet of sweet red fruits, raw cocoa, rich soil and dried rose petal, framed by a judicious application of cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, reserved and concentrated, with fine-grained but firm structuring tannins, tangy acids and impressive length. This Clos Saint-Jacques is shutting down, so it's all about future potential, but its showing in this tasting suggested that when all is said and done, it may well be the Clos Saint-Jacques of the vintage.Inc. We found the wines in 2015 very easy and forward to taste, with as much focus on freshness as concentration, so there wasn’t a complete break from the 2014s in that sense. The hope is that as the wines mature they will continue to show the balance and classicism they displayed from the barrel. Our expectation is that they will do so and the best wines will live for a very long time with a genuinely satisfying pattern of maturation throughout their life.
