The higher altitude of the vineyard and its proximity to the cold air of the combe are apparent on the nose and palate of this deliciously fragrant wine. It's very chalky and chiselled with abundant minerality and freshness lifting and sustaining the fruit flavours. The slight reduction adds another dimension here.Inc. VAT£801.59 -

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny les Cras has a very reticent, broody bouquet that does not want to come out to play. The palate is vibrant and focused with wonderful chalky tannins, citric acidity and a long, lightly spiced finish that fans out with vim and vigor. This should be very satisfying once in bottle, although I wager that it will deserve more cellaring than Roumier's other 2013s.Inc. VAT£2,399.62 -

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a dreamy bouquet that gushes with brambly red berry fruit, redcurrant, cranberry and, to be exact, Tiptree “Little Scarlet” strawberry jam, all beautifully defined. The palate is plush, velvety smooth, very refined with pitch perfect acidity. This Les Cras displays admirable depth, moving into more red Morello cherry and light allspice notes towards the delicate and yet persistent finish. Iron fist/velvety glove and all that... Jancis Robinson (17.5)
1.75 ha (4.3 acres). Higher vineyard than most, facing south-east but cool air comes down the combe. Terres blanches, ie limestone-rich marl. Low-vigour vines here. Theirs were planted 1931, some replanted 2002. 60% whole bunch, 25% new oak. Barrel sample. Deep crimson. Fabulous nose of ripe red fruit with the perfume of peony. Perhaps also a touch of lavender from the whole bunch. Wild flowers and still so much fruit. Much tighter and more strict than Les Combottes, the tannins more upright and less smooth but still very very fine. More stony. 14.2% but you would not know. And that mineral freshness and energy is outstanding even if the wine is less approachable than some. Rich in fruit, mouth-watering in texture and that minerality gives a tight frame to the fruit.Inc. VAT£617.99 -

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has one of the more classically-styled, reserved bouquets amongst its flight. Exhibiting more tertiary elements, this is exquisitely defined by presence rather than horsepower. The palate is very well balanced and lush, but not overpowering, with touches of Kirsch and orange rind, and a sprinkling of white pepper. Quite long and with a soupçon of exoticism toward the finish in keeping with the vintage, this is pure class. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. VAT£4,296.36 -

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has an open-knit bouquet with brambly red fruit, crushed stone and rose petals. Delicate at first, there is plenty of fruit and more terroir expression than the Les Cras from Ghislaine-Barthod. The palate is very well balanced and graceful with slightly chalky tannins. Impressive tension and mineralité in this Chambolle with insistent grip on the finish. This is finely crafted and should age with style. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. VAT£704.39 -
Burghound (94)
(from a 1.75 ha parcel of vines averaging 40+ years of age). A cool, elegant and airy nose reflects notes of both red and blue pinot fruit, exotic tea and plenty of floral whiffs, particularly violet and lavender. The sleek and sophisticated medium weight flavors exude an almost palpable minerality as the mouthfeel is akin to rolling tiny pebbles around the mouth, all wrapped into dusty, palate soaking and beautifully long finale. This is outstanding though a wine that will need at least some patience.Inc. VAT£3,699.49 -

Good medium red. Dark raspberry, coffee and spicy oak on the nose; this wine's flamboyant ripeness almost came as a shock following the more reticent 2006s. As outlined in Nick's article on Costa Brava favourites, Villa Mas is the place to go if you want a wide range of Roumier wines at excellent prices – and many another fine Burgundy (and now Beaujolais) too. After a long discussion with Nuria the sommelier I chose the 2010. We were worried about the ripeness of the 2009. She is a massive fan of how the 2008 is tasting now and I should probably have followed her advice, but I have much more enthusiastic memories of the 2010s (especially Roumier's Cras), so went for 2010. We were not disappointed. This – ok, a lowly(!) village wine – was everything that red burgundy should be: subtle, profound, richly fruity but not remotely sweet and extremely long. The texture was a sort of glistening, tantalising taffeta – not soft. There is no hurry to drink this wine. If I had to specify a fruit it would be red cherries. But it was so much more complex than a single fruit, with some spicy notes too and wonderful vitality. Bravo, Christophe, and Carlos who assembled this great burgundy list.Inc. VAT£4,225.09 -
(1x75cl) 2012Vinous (90-92)
Dark cherry, plum, menthol, cloves and licorice all meld together in the 2012 Chambolle-Musigny. This is a surprisingly dark, fleshy Chambolle by Roumier standards. The flavors are layered, deep and resonant throughout. A powerful village level Chambolle, the 2012 should offer a decade-plus of hugely rewarding drinking.Inc. VAT£503.99 -

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Village is the combination of three cuvées wih 35% whole bunch. Vinous (89-91)
The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Village, which includes 35% whole bunch, has a very composed bouquet of disarmingly pure, predominantly black fruit laced with blood orange. Very succinct. The medium-bodied palate features crunchy black fruit with traces of licorice, gaining in density toward a finish that grips gently and evolves a Morey-like structure. Just a touch of heat on the aftertaste, but nothing to worry about. In Bond£520.00 -
Vinous (89-91)
The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Village is the combination of three cuvées wih 35% whole bunch. There was a slight reduction on the nose that maybe exposes the whole bunch a little more, but there is so much freshness and vitality still present. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, just a faint almost dark chocolate like note in the background that will be assimilated by the time of bottling. Fine length. Delicious. In Bond£536.00
