(1x75cl) 2015Vinous (93-96)
(a single new 228-liter barrel): Bright pale yellow. Knockout nose combines white peach, nectarine, crushed rock and white pepper, with spicy oak in a complementary role. Penetrating, savory flavors of lemon, lime, peach and crushed stone convey an impression of power without weight. Really terrific fruit and mineral intensity here. The slightly phenolic finish features superb building length. An outstanding expression of terroir.Inc. VAT£4,568.65 -

Burghound (97)
(Don't Miss!) A discreet but not invisible touch of wood sets off the notably more floral-suffused aromas of citrus confit, exotic tea, anise and white peach. The gorgeously textured large-scaled flavors possess outstanding cut and minerality that contrasts with the exceptionally dry, austere and massively long finish. This strikingly pure effort is packed with potential but note well that it's not likely to be a wine that permits early accessibility. In sum, this is a classic Chevalier in the making, but patience will absolutely be required.Inc. VAT£3,032.42 -
Vinous (92-95)
(a negociant wine, but Boillot harvested these grapes and vinified with 30% whole clusters; aged in all new barrels) Full ruby-red. Wild aromas of black and red cherry, five-spice powder and cumin. Fat, concentrated and sweet but quite pliant, with the exotic Asian spice character accenting the sappy black raspberry and cherry fruit. Sweet but lively wine, finishing with broad tannins and terrific verve.Inc. VAT£174.12 -
(1x75cl) 2006Vinous (90-92)
(a negociant wine, but Boillot took over the vineyard work here in July) Medium red. A burst of cherry, licorice and spice on the nose, along with a coolish peppery note. Supple but juicy, with lively flavors of pepper and spices. Finishes long, peppery and aromatic, with dusty tannins and an almost gum-numbing austerity. The fruit here came in with 13.5% potential alcohol, but this is not going to be an early charmer.Inc. VAT£377.74 -
Vinous (93+)
Saturated, bright red-ruby. Expressive, ripe aromas of black cherry, pepper, and a whiff of leather. Full, sweet and harmonious, with great lift and definition to its sappy black cherry and licorice flavors. Really compellingly sweet and palate-coating for a 2008. The fine-grained tannins contribute to the impression of precision on the explosive, vibrant back end. Boillot told me he did a selection in 2008 but that it was to eliminate pink grapes, as there was almost no rot.Inc. VAT£176.93 -
(3x75cl) 2014Vinous (93)
Bright, dark red. Captivating aromas and flavors of raspberry, flowers and gibier, lifted by a note of white pepper. Comes across as distinctly wild after Boillot's estate bottlings from the Côte de Beaune. Quite broad and round for both Clos Vougeot and the 2014 vintage, offering noteworthy freshness, pliancy and depth. Finishes very smooth and long, with ripe, fine-grained tannins and no hard edges.Inc. VAT£545.16 -

Boillot's 2015 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, which hails from the lieu-dit Grand Maupertui (neighboring Anne Gros' parcel), reveals a brooding bouquet of cassis, plum, musk and incense, framed by toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and multidimensional, fresh and vibrant despite its considerable amplitude and power, with a fine-grained chassis of tannin and a long, sapid finish. This is a rich, lavish Clos Vougeot which should develop beautifully in the cellar.Inc. VAT£1,230.04 -
Burghound (94)
A pretty and very fresh if quite restrained nose is composed by notes of plum, dark cherry and discreet wood nuances. There is outstanding richness to the round and admirably pure big-bodied flavors that possess impressive mid-palate concentration while concluding in a markedly firm, dusty, mouth coating and moderately austere finish that delivers seriously good length. Patience required though.Inc. VAT£211.32 -

The 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is showing very well, soaring from the glass with aromas of wild berries, rose petals, violets, orange rind and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with lively acids and a powdery but elegantly refined chassis of structuring tannins, concluding with a long and resonant finish.Inc. Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
When the Boillots’ previous source started to bottle his own wines in 2015, it was necessary to switch to another source which seems to be equally good. Rich deep purple black. This is certainly ripe, perhaps even a gamey quality. Freshens up in the glass. Huge fruit weight here, dark notes but actually a core of pure red fruit beneath. Strong but fine tannins, this is going to be quite impressive. Tasted: 10/1/2021Inc. VAT£209.06 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru offers ripe raspberry and blackcurrant scents on the nose. It has fine presence and detail, with the oak neatly enmeshed and delineated. With time, it develops minty aromas that are excess to requirements. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and ripe red berry fruit, with just the faintest green edge, which dovetails into a peppery but nicely controlled finish. Quite an alluring Clos de Vougeot. I would afford this a year or two in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. VAT£751.98 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-94)
A deep ruby purple. Powerful dense red fruit without detail as yet. Solid, concentrated, four-square, with no shortage of fruit, and a few tannins completing the muscular structure. Perhaps not quite as persistent as the best in the cellar. Drink from 2031-2037. Tasted Oct 2024.Inc. VAT£690.40 -
(1x300cl) 2015Jancis Robinson (18+)
Subtle nose, impeccably fresh but lacking the nutty complexity normally associated with the appellation. Having said that, there is an incredibly dense palate and long, concentrated fruit which should age for a long time. Judging from their other 2015s, this will be magnificent - but it needs time to get there.Inc. VAT£1,324.60 -
(6x75cl) 2016Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96)
Pale lemon. Excellent weight of fruit on the nose which shows significant promise. White stone fruit and a few plums at the edges. With a very refreshing gunflint reductive minerality. This is very Corton-Charlemagne. Tasted: May 2019.Inc. VAT£1,983.64 -

The most youthfully reserved wine in the cellar was the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, a promising bottling that opens up to reveal scents of citrus zest, dried white flowers, green apple and pastry cream. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with racy acids and prodigious levels of searingly chalky dry extract that lend this wine incredible structure.Inc. VAT£725.99 -

Produced from purchased grapes, the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is serious and structured, enforcing a change of pace after the series of Puligny-Montrachet grands crus. Mingling notes of pear and citrus oil with hints of toasted bread, white flowers and praline, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and chalky, with palpable structuring dry extract and tangy balancing acids.Inc. Subtle notes of mineral reduction and wood toast can be found on the aromas of green apple, clove and white flowers. The wonderfully intense, focused and muscular large-scaled flavors brim with both dry extract and an almost aggressively minerality on the markedly dry but not really austere finale. Like the Chevalier and Montrachet, this beauty of a Corton-Charlemagne is presently very tightly wound and is going to need extended patience to arrive at its peak. This too should be gorgeous in time.Inc. VAT£2,253.58 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
In 2021 the Boillot Corton-Charlemagne is all from Aloxe and not the three communes. Mid lemon yellow. The nose has some style, flesh and floral and potentially stony. More wood is showing at the back but there is so much wine still to come out. Lemon juice intensity at the back. Very long again Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2022Inc. VAT£937.19 -

Vinous (95-97)
The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is fabulous. Bright and effusive, with terrific depth, the 2023 captures all the energy that is typical of the best Charlemagnes. Crushed rocks, mint, sage, chamomile, dried flowers and tangerine oil race across the palate. The Charlemagne is often one of the best wines here, as it is again in 2023. It’s certainly a highlight.Inc. VAT£785.58 -

There is a whisper of the exotic to the riper aromas that also possess admirable purity if noticeably less elegance. The succulent, powerful and dense big-bodied flavors once again coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the balanced and harmonious finale. Aromas of orange oil, honeycomb, ripe pears, wheat toast and paraffin wax introduce the 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, ample and textural wine that's fleshy and enveloping but underpinned by an impressively chalky structure that brings unusual tension and grip to this inherently generous terroir.Inc.
