Deep, bright red-ruby. Dark raspberry, licorice, violet and minerals on the vibrant nose and palate. Moderately sweet, dense and sappy, with a saline impression of soil giving shape to the silky, mouthfilling flavors. A very densely fruited nose is composed mostly from the black side of the fruit spectrum along with notes of menthol, spice and Asian tea nuances. There is excellent concentration to the intense and attractively well-detailed middle weight flavors that possess a suave and highly seductive mouth feel before terminating in a mouth coating, complex and hugely long finish. This is an unusually powerful RSV that is less elegant than usual yet one that is still very much on the way up, indeed I would suggest allowing it at least another 5 to 7 years of celar time as it's very much still a baby.Inc. Good medium red. Highly perfumed nose combines raspberry, strawberry, cocoa powder, white pepper, blood orange and a resiny headshop spiciness. Pungent, complex and weightless; a wonderfully lively, delicate wine with sneaky intensity and superb penetrating energy and lift. Finishes dry and understated. Suave rather than large. My recorked bottle lost some verve with 24 hours, suggesting that this wine is probably best for mid-term drinking-say, beginning in five years. But that brilliant nose can't be duplicated anywhere outside the northern C o te de Nuits. Van Canneyt told me he doesn't consider 2007 to be a great year for this domain and that he prefers the 2008s for their depth of fruit and texture.Inc. VAT£1,045.46 -

(25% vendange entier): Good bright, full red. Complex, inviting nose combines raspberry, rose petal and orange zest. Intensely flavored and sharply delineated, showing excellent lift and verve to its red fruit and soil flavors. An element of medicinal red cherry and emerging minerality suggest that this silky, deep wine will enjoy a graceful evolution in bottle. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins and lovely rising perfume. With time in the glass, this wine demonstrated its firm spine more clearly.Inc. VAT£4,883.15 -

I knew that the 2014 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru would be great when I tasted it from barrel last year...but not this great. It has a wonderful, tensile bouquet that just seems to sparkle. The fruit is so crystalline and laden with energy and mineralité that you almost have to sit down! The palate is surfeit with energy, the fruit perhaps a little darker than in barrel with white pepper, spices towards the almost Richebourg-like finish. Tasting them side-by-side, I would err for this over the Richebourg - it is a magnificent wine from Charles van Canneyt.Inc. VAT£2,825.58 -

The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, and it is focused to the point of symmetry, gradually building in the mouth toward an intense, spicy, almost citric finish with blood orange and marmalade. It's perhaps a level-up from the previous vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a plush entry. It's velvety smooth in texture, with a patina of oak to be subsumed, but there is plenty of weight on the finish and a wonderful peppery aftertaste. The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts was the latest to finish its malolactic in mid-September. The nose has plenty of energy: red berry fruit, orange sorbet, wet limestone and fresh prune scents. The palate is primal with a dense body of red fruit. The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts has a disarmingly beautiful nose with blackcurrant, briary and cold stone scents that offer great typicité. Likewise, the palate has a structure typical of this premier cru, denser and more mineral-driven than the Suchots, perhaps at the same time more aloof. The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru is limited to two-and-a-half barrels this year, making it the domaine’s smallest cuvée, and only bottled in magnum. It has an earthy, loamy nose, almost peat-like, very well defined, with ample black fruit. The palate has sinew on the entry and great depth and assertiveness. The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru has a fresh raspberry and wild strawberry bouquet, accompanied by touches of leather and freshly tilled earth. The Beaumonts from Hudelot-Noellat has ripened well despite the vintage and the location, showing a lovely plummy fruit with rose petal notes on the nose and a supple texture with silky tannins that are firm but not astringent and impressive length. The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts was the latest to finish its malolactic in mid-September. The nose has plenty of energy: red berry fruit, orange sorbet, wet limestone and fresh prune scents. The palate is primal with a dense body of red fruit. The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts has a disarmingly beautiful nose with blackcurrant, briary and cold stone scents that offer great typicité. Likewise, the palate has a structure typical of this premier cru, denser and more mineral-driven than the Suchots, perhaps at the same time more aloof. The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru is limited to two-and-a-half barrels this year, making it the domaine’s smallest cuvée, and only bottled in magnum. It has an earthy, loamy nose, almost peat-like, very well defined, with ample black fruit. The palate has sinew on the entry and great depth and assertiveness.
