(6x75cl) 2015Vinous (93)
Bright, full medium red. Very ripe aromas of cherry and strawberry. Then surprisingly sappy and stylish on the palate, displaying lovely finesse of texture without any undue weight. Wonderfully broad and deep for premier cru, but with spicy high notes contributing to the wine's impression of definition and its light touch; there's also an element of medicinal reserve that I did not find in the Millandes. Best today on the very long finish, which features noble, fine-grained tannins and terrific rising perfume. I'm not sure I would have picked this blind as a 2015, in spite of the almost candied ripeness shown by the nose.Inc. VAT£526.40 -

(6x75cl) 2013Wine Advocate (94)
The 2013 Bâtard Montrachet, Michel Niellon’s rarest cru (just two and a half barrels in 2013) was bottled at the beginning of September. It has an exotic, candied bouquet comparing it directly with the Chevalier-Montrachet with lush passion fruit and almond scents, all nigh irresistible. The palate is rounded and exotic in the mouth but not overbearing, armed with gorgeous orange peel, pineapple and lemon zest notes and then plenty of passion fruit toward the vibrant finish. This is holding nothing back, unlike the Chevalier-Montrachet, and it will be difficult to resist in its youth.Inc. VAT£2,927.09 -
Wine Advocate (94)
The 2015 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a valedictory wine as the 90-year-old vines were pulled up after the fruit was picked (see producer introduction). You know, it actually surpasses the Chevalier-Montrachet in terms of mineralité and complexity, very refined with hints of orange blossom developing with time. The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity, good tension and particular fine salinity here that urges you back for another sip. There is just a barrel and a half of this Bâtard-Montrachet so grab one now because it will not reappear for a long time.Inc. VAT£2,808.04 -

This is holding nothing back, unlike the Chevalier-Montrachet, and it will be difficult to resist in its youth. In Bond£2,420.00 -

There is just a barrel and a half of this Bâtard-Montrachet so grab one now because it will not reappear for a long time.In Bond£2,324.00 -

Bright light yellow. Expressive nose combines pear, honey, menthol and flowers. Ripe, fine-grained and nicely concentrated, showing more gras than the Chaumées Clos de la Truffière but also healthy acidity and floral lift. A bit aggressive on the back end but not spiky, finishing with very good length. In Bond£1,093.00 -

Fresh clear pale colour. The nose has less character than my favourites in the line-up. Takes a little time, then more emerges. Mid lemon yellow, a discreet bouquet with a little white fruit and perhaps less gunflint than Maltroie. More apple coming out. An attractive mid lemon colour. The nose is a little more backward, but the palate delivers impressive tension along with the usual complete mouthful of the purest white fruit. Tension pursues all the way through and the ripeness is perfect. This is not the most fruit forward of Chaumées I have tasted here, but has all the qualities for ageing well.
