  • Rapet Pere & Fils Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2022 (6x75cl)

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)

90% is from the Pernand. Side, a third old vines, a third 20 year old, a third 35 year old. And guess what, the youngest are in the worst condition. Some tressed, some worked by winch. Pale colour, a beautifully mineral nose, properly shows its terroir. The wine picks up speed further back on the palate, opening out very nicely. Very attractive. Drink from 2029-2037. Tasted: October 2023.

  • Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux 1999 (1x75cl)
  • Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux 2000 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (91)

( bottled last November) Pure, expressive aromas of crystallized lemon rind and spices; quickly closed up in the glass. Dense, ripe and generous, with flavors of powdered stone and spices and very good intensity and grip. Then finishes with sneaky length, and a tactile quality.
  • Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux 2003 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (90)

Pale yellow. Pure aromas of lemon, spices and stone. Supple, round and silky, with very ripe but bright flavors of apple, pear and citrus fruits. Impressively fat, rich and seamless premier cru with excellent length. This was bottled the day before I tasted it but was not yet showing any evidence of shock.
  • Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux 2004 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

Bright yellow color. Crushed stone, snap pea, white truffle and vanilla on the nose. Fat, silky and full, but without any impression of undue weight. Impressively horizontal and fleshy for premier cru, and utterly seamless. Finishes with superb length and considerable complexity. Looks to be an outstanding example of this premier cru bottling.
  • Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux 2006 (12x75cl)

This tactile, classic wine demonstrates the terroir more than it does the vintage. Colder, clay-rich soils, as is the case here and in Montee de Tonnerre, did very well in 2006, noted Raveneau.

    Vinous (92+)

Pale, green-tinged yellow. Reticent aromas of mirabelle and iodine. Then tight but sappy in the mouth, with lovely inner-mouth perfume and lift to the lemon, wet stone and mineral flavors. This tactile, classic wine demonstrates the terroir more than it does the vintage. Colder, clay-rich soils, as is the case here and in Montee de Tonnerre, did very well in 2006, noted Raveneau.

Solid mineral grip extends the finish and gives this premier cru excellent tension, but it will need five or six years to unwind.
