    Vinous (97)

(a berry-by-berry selection from the bottom of the slope; this never goes through malo; 195 g/l r.s.; bottled in 375-ml. format): Bright medium gold. Classic, high-toned scents of dried apricot, honey, crumbly buttery pastry shell and toffee. Incredibly dense and thick but also surprisingly racy, with its utterly seamless flavors of dried fruits, spices, hazelnut and marzipan framed and carried by almost lemony acidity. Wonderfully penetrating, exhilaratingly high-toned wine with great texture, lift and length. This is really a remarkable thing to do with Chardonnay.

The 2009 Corton is impeccably refined from start to finish. Endless layers of red fruit, flowers, licorice and sweet spices caress the palate in this impeccable, breathtaking red. This is an absolutely gorgeous, striking wine endowed with extraordinary textural finesse and elegance. Sweet, perfumed notes caress the palate on the rich, resonant finish. In 2009, the Corton is pure finesse and class. Ideally, the 2009 is best left alone for at least a few years, but readers will need to be disciplined, as the wine is already delicious, even today. Suave, silky and expressive, the 2015 Corton Grand Cru is a standout. Silky tannins wrap around a core of ripe red cherry/plum fruit, with pretty floral, hard candy, and spice overtones that develop with a bit of time in the glass. Naturally, the 2015 is very, very young. But it is a gorgeous Burgundy that will repay cellaring handsomely.

  • Bonneau du Martray Corton Grand Cru 2017 (1x150cl)

    Vinous (95+)

Bonneau du Martray's 2017 Corton Grand Cru is exceptionally beautiful. The aromatics alone are beguiling. A burst of sweet red berry fruit and flowers emerges from this gracious, sensual Corton. The 2017 is so expressive, vivid and elegant, even though it was bottled just a few months before this tasting. In a word: impressive. I can't wait to taste this again.
  • Bonneau du Martray Corton Grand Cru 2018 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (88)

The 2018 Corton Grand Cru just lacks a bit of bandwidth on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit, but there is less terroir expression than some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with some stalky elements on the entry. It is missing a little density and grip towards the finish that feels a little drier than I would have liked at this early juncture. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

    Burghound (94)

There is a hint of exoticism to the cool and admirably pure citrus, pear and green apple suffused nose that is presently trimmed in a noticeable, if very slight, touch of reduction. The rich and extremely fresh middle weight plus flavors possess an impressive amount of dry extract as well as ample mineral influence on the austere and ultra-pure finish that seems to go on and on. This powerful and impeccably well-balanced effort is still very much on the way up and will need another 5 to 7 years before it reaches its full apogee. Tasted twice recently with consistent notes.

    Wine Advocate (96)

The 2010 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru offers an enticing array of marine scents on the nose: cockle shells and estuarine aromas. Give it a couple more minutes and watch those lovely grilled walnut scents flourish and multiply so that is ends up almost Meursault Perrieres in character. The palate makes an immediate impression on the entry with that subtle nutty theme continuing, partnered with racy acidity, superb concentration and a long, tense finish that is energetic and surfeit with mineralite, flint popping up on the finish. So delicious you could broach a bottle now - but that would be depriving you of what will be in a decade-s time! Drink 2016-2035.

Boisson-Vadot Meursault Sous La Velle 2017, an outstanding Chardonnay from Burgundy finest minds, embodies the quintessence of French viticulture. Made by Bernard Boisson and his children, whose meticulous, traditional approach yields wines of unparalleled complexity and subtlety, this vintage is no exception to their high standards. Grown in the treasured terroir of Meursault, exchanges between limestone-rich soils and old vines gift it an expressive mineral character. Aged in French oak barrels, its distinguished bouquet presents buttery notes, balanced by pleasing acidity and concentrated flavors of white peach and almond. Extended lees contact bestows a rich, creamy texture. Harmonious and sophisticated, this exemplifies the elegance of Côte de Beaune's white wines. Best enjoyed after cellaring for a few more years, the Boisson-Vadot Meursault Sous La Velle 2017 is indeed a luxurious testament to the terroir-driven grandeur of Burgundy.

  • Bongran (Thevenet) Macon Clesse Botrytis 2006 (12x37.5cl)

Anticipated maturity: 2014+.

  • Bonneau du Martray Corton Grand Cru 2015 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (95)

The 1994 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is exotic, deep and so distinctive. Oily and rich in the glass, with striking texture, the 1994 is superb. Orange peel, hazelnut, chamomile, dried savory herbs and tropical inflections all come alive in the glass. It is a superb wine from a year where hail, botrytis and mildew were among the challenges.

Bonneau du Martray’s 2006 Corton-Charlemagne (magnum) opens with a super-classic bouquet of slate, crushed rocks and hints of reduction. Bracing and intense and energetic, the 2006 flows with superb focus and pure mineral-drenched cut. From magnum, the 2006 is simply dazzling and appears to have many years of fine drinking ahead of it. 95

    Vinous (95)

I thought the 2009 Corton-Charlemagne from Bonneau du Martray was simply brilliant. Perhaps it was the magnum format, but the 2009 was fabulous, with all of the signature mineral, slate and citrus notes given a little extra richness by the warmth of the year. What a gorgeous wine.

  • Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2010 (3x150cl)
