(from redder soil over rock; 30 hectoliters per hectare produced): Pale yellow. Aromas of iodine, crushed rock and spicy oak. Chewy and densely packed but quite backward, currently dominated by wet stone and mineral notes. Finishes powerful but youthfully austere, with a repeating wet stone character. Lamy has been planting part of this vineyard at high density, but this fruit is not yet part of the wine. (Incidentally, Lamy did not make a Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macharelles in 2016 owing to the frost.)In Bond£2,978.00 -

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru has a pretty nose with candied orange peel and light oily/linseed aromas. The palate is taut on the entry with good weight, bitter lemon and apricot notes. The grippy and quite phenolic finish has satisfying length. It should age well over 12-15 years. In Bond£1,721.00 -
Vinous (93)
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Macherelles 1er Cru comes from red clay soils planted in 1988. This is cut from a different cloth to Lamy's Saint-Aubins: chamomile, white tea and light hazelnuts, almost Meursault-like in style. The palate is tensile on the entry, with fine bitter lemon notes intermixed with peach skin and stem ginger that give the final third an additional dimension. Quite persistent, this is a very serious Chassagne that should age with style. In Bond£934.00 -

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet La Goujonne reveals aromas of plums, dark berries and spices, followed by a medium-bodied, taut and chalky palate that's a touch more structurally rustic than other recent vintages. In Bond£346.00 -
Vinous (89-91)
The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet La Concis de Champs had wild variations in potential alcohol and acidity levels, caused by differing rootstocks, vine ages, pruning techniques, etc., that made it difficult for Olivier Lamy to pick. This has a bright red apple and lime bouquet that feels well defined. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and very pure. A lovely touch of bitter lemon enlivens and lends edge on the finish. Excellent. In Bond£987.00
