Moderate wood stops short of being invasive on the ripe wild red and dark currant, violet and subtle sauvage-suffused nose. The wonderfully fine, if not especially dense, middle weight flavors firm up on the serious, youthfully austere and sneaky long finale. The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a wonderful, pixelated bouquet of vibrant red berry fruit, the cool microclimate imbuing this cru with great tension and precision. The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru contains no stems this year. It has a very delineated and focused bouquet with superb mineralité and tension. The palate is very well balanced with the 50% new oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine delineation and so much freshness thank to the limestone soils. Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
Domaine Two barrels, one new and one one year old, destemmed entirely. Some of the vines date back to 1929. Mid crimson colour, fine weight of strawberry fruit, absolutely fills the middle of the mouth, with quite a persistent finish. Clearly their preferred wine of the two whereas I fractionally prefer Champeaux. Both are very good indeed in 2025.In Bond£748.00 -

Seven barrels made, which is unheard of even in the memory of the Maume family, whence these vines originated. Bright vigorous purple fruit, very sensual, picked at ideal ripeness, the fruit flowing across the palate, backed by useful tannins to finish. Drink from 2029-2038. The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village contains 20% whole bunch and 30% new oak. It has a lovely, lilting brambly red berry nose infused with orange blossom and sous-bois aromas; very charming. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, hints of dark chocolate infusing the red fruit and a persistent finish. Excellent.In Bond£78.00 -

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has the audacity to surpass the En Pallud this year. It has a potent nose that seems to jump out of the glass. Quite floral with hints of lavender intertwined with the vivacious red fruit. So much energy! That comes across on the palate too. Fine tannins, sapid and tensile, there is a brightness to this Village Cru that is quite thrilling. Superb.In Bond£83.00 -
