The 2019 Meursault Les Vireuils has a pretty bouquet with orchard fruit, hints of apricot and just a touch of almond coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with an edgy opening, quite sharp at first, orange zest and a touch of tangerine. A citric finish just needs a little more length. This will develop with bottle age but I would afford it 3 to 4 years in the cellar.Inc. VAT£494.66 -

(from Côte de Près Girots and Morein). A discreet but not invisible application of wood sets off aromas of slightly riper white and yellow peach with subtle Chablis influence, in particular iodine. There is again excellent volume to the sappy and beguilingly textured medium weight flavors that possess solid power if limited refinement on the citrus rind and quinine-inflected finish that is firm enough to repay mid-term keeping.Inc. 5 Star Wine. Bottled November. Clear mid lemon. The nose is stricter than the 2023, more a classic Vaillons, with mineral purity, white fruit, plenty of flesh but nicely balanced by the lees work. The 2010 Chablis Mont de Milieu has turned out beautifully. A gentle hint of spices from the oak frames layers of gorgeous, nuanced fruit. The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu is another taut, structured wine that had only recently been bottled when I tasted it. The 2021 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru is matured 80% in stainless steel and 20% in barrels for 12 months whereupon it is blended and raised for another six months. This has one of the more austere and backward bouquets from Billaud this year - one for hardcore Chablis-lovers. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, austere and linear, very saline - a serious Chablis that should only be consumed with a large plate of seafood.Inc. VAT£103.45 -
Samuel Billaud Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu 2022 exemplifies the refined elegance of Burgundy’s esteemed Chablis region. Under Samuel Billaud’s expert stewardship, the winemaking process embraces traditional techniques, including cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the grape’s pure fruit expression and subtle complexity.
