A clear pale lemon. A pretty bouquet, more floral, without the sulphur reduction of the Bourgogne Blanc. Clean and even quite chiselled, pure white fruit, just a little heat behind, and some barrel toast. However, the core fruit is very attractive and has some muscle. Fair tension behind. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: October 2023.

  • Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 1999 (1x75cl)

Complex, subtle nose combines lime, smoke, minerals, nuts and earth. A distinct step up in texture and concentration from the premier crus; fresh, nicely delineated and solidly structured. Classy and light on its feet. Finishes subtle and long, and not at all austere for a '99.

  • Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2013 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

From five and half barrels, the 2013 Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru has a clinical nose with wonderful delineation. It is teasingly aloof at first, distant with faint oyster shell and brine notes, but glimpses only. Then it opens the door ajar with limestone and dewy green apple scents. The palate is extremely well balanced with clearly much higher level of tension than the Premier Crus from Niellon. But it is strict and very linear, long but without the peacock’s tail that will develop with time in bottle. There is almost a Riesling-like poise here, a Chevalier to cellar away while you enjoy the more open Bâtard-Montrachet. Excellent.
  • Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2014 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93+)

Very pale, green-tinged yellow. Very fresh if slightly reduced aromas of pear, flint, white flowers and talc. Then dense, sappy and alive in the mouth, showing penetrating lemony cut to the flavors of pear, mint and minerals. This uncompromisingly dry wine finishes vibrant and juicy, with terrific grip. This wine actually struck me as a bit exotic from barrel last year, but it's far more classic in its finished form.
  • Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2015 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94)

Niellon's 2015 Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru is superb, opening with a lovely nose of pastry cream, preserved lemon, beeswax and toasted nuts, framed by new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and textural, with a glossy attack, a deep mid-palate, and a bright, lightly grippy finish. While this is a powerful, dramatic Chevalier Montrachet it's very nicely balanced.

  • Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 (6x75cl)

    Burghound (97)

Don't miss! An overtly floral-suffused nose speaks of the ripe essence of white peach, passion fruit, anise, exotic Asian-style tea and in particularly jasmine, tangerine rind and a hint of wood influence. There is exceptionally good density to the palate staining big-bodied flavors that exhibit impressive power on the muscular and overtly mineral-driven finale which offers massive length on the ever-so-slightly warm finale. This very serious effort is a classic Chevalier of class and grace and it's also a wine that I could still taste 24 hours later. It will be hard to find but worth it as this is one of the wines of the vintage. In a word, brilliant. 2032+

Pure and clear. The nose is very austere indeed, almost aggressively on the limestone. Yet there is a marvellous wealth of exciting fruit behind. Energy from the start, wait for the length because it is that, rather than the depth and breadth, which signifies well in 2021. This should be pretty fine later on.
  • Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (98)

A wine of intense concentration, tension and focus, even in the warm conditions of 2022. Aroma notes of ripe apple, peach and quince, then the volume and density you'd expect from 2022, but it's well balanced by the fresh acidity that draws it to a lingering finish. Grapes from Niellon’s plot of old vines are fermented on native yeasts in 40% new cask. This wine is among the best from this vintage and will make old bones if you are so inclined.

Clean and even quite chiselled, pure white fruit, just a little heat behind, and some barrel toast. However, the core fruit is very attractive and has some muscle. Fair tension behind. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: October 2023.

Very pale colour. A fresh chiselled stony white fruit on the nose. Pure fresh apple and pear, quite concentrated, a little bit of citrus, middleweight with good persistence. Drink from 2026-2029. Tasted Oct 2024.

Mid lemon yellow. A little reductive gunflint on the nose, not excessive. The stones show through the riper fruit on the nose, with good weight of white orchard fruit on the palate, the finish shows the class of Terres Blanches as a white wine terroir, extending nobly to the back. (the estate carried out three different élevages for this wine, one of them using Hungarian oak): Bright, light yellow. A note of noble reduction to the aromas of white peach, clove and musky minerals. Supple and juicy, conveying an impression of sucrosité to its dried fruit, almond paste and spice flavors.
