Vinous (88-90)
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru just misses the mineralité expressed by other cuvées on the nose - a little one-dimensional by comparison. The palate is better with fine "bite" on the entry, moderate depth, perhaps just needing a little more precision on the finish.Inc. VAT£581.52 -
Jancis Robinson (17)
Classy premier cru with a zesty character on the palate allied to bright acidity and appealing stony notes to follow. I would be very happy to drink this now. Complex, nutty, savoury on the lengthy, pithy finish.Inc. VAT£418.32 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru has a bright nose with yellow plum, white peach and light sea spray scents that opens beautifully in the glass. The palate is very well balanced and quite intense with a bit more body than other cuvées. It's a little honeyed toward the finish but the acidity keeps everything in check. This is a charming Chassagne.Inc. VAT£495.89 -
Vinous (94)
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeots 1er Cru, over towards the Santenay side, usually takes longer to ripen. The nose is well balanced with fine delineation, touches of honeysuckle and pressed white flowers. The palate is well balanced with a lovely white peach and white chocolate opening, fine salinity, very poised and tensile towards the finish. Superb.Inc. VAT£1,391.04 -
Vinous (90)
Matured with 20% new oak the 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Village has a high-toned and expressive bouquet with white flowers and a touch of tangerine. The palate is well balanced with a finely tuned opening, lemon verbena and apricot, with a pretty, quite floral finish. This is quite classy for a Chassagne Village.Inc. VAT£547.09 -
Vinous (87-89)
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Village has a fresh bouquet, perhaps just lacking a little terroir expression, possibly because around 50% here was lost to frost. The palate is better with a sappy entry, a decent spine of acidity and lightly spiced towards the finish. I suspect the aromatics will open by the time of bottling.Inc. VAT£415.09 -
Vinous (88)
The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is matured in 20% new oak. It has a generous bouquet with orchard fruit, touches of almond and patisserie. It will require a couple of years to absorb the oak. The palate is well-balanced, with a fine bead of acidity countering the richness, though it needs to muster a little more complexity on the finish.Inc. VAT£321.49 -
(6x75cl) 2012Wine Advocate (95)
The 2012 Criots-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from the family’s one-third hectare holding planted between the 1930s and 1990s. It was picked the same day as the premier crus and Celine told me that it always has a slightly higher degree of alcohol. It has an entrancing bouquet with perfumed apricot, peach and dried citrus peel notes infused with minerals – feminine and seductive. The palate is medium-bodied with a rounded, powerful, spicy opening. It is very well balanced, very concentrated on the finish. This is compelling like so many from this under-rated grand cru vineyard, though there are just four barrels instead of the usual eight in this year.Inc. VAT£2,875.24 -
Wine Advocate (95)
The 2013 Criots Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru has an intense and mineral bouquet that soars – touches of white peach and apricot blossom gently drifting from the glass, flecks of chalk and even white chocolate. The palate is fresh and vibrant, hints of white peach and brioche, oyster shell and citrus peel on the precise understated finish. This will be irresistible.Inc. VAT£2,386.32 -
(6x75cl) 2014Wine Advocate (94)
The 2014 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru needed a little more encouragement from the glass compared to its Chassagne label-mates, but it's worth persevering as it unveils subtle white peach and fresh pear scents interlaced with minerals that are very come-hither. The palate is more giving with a bead of acidity piercing the energetic citrus fruit and then it fans out towards the second half with orange rind and hints of peach. Very harmonious and magically long, this is a great Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet.Inc. VAT£2,806.84 -
Wine Advocate (92-94)
The 2015 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, which came in at around 13.5% alcohol, has a lovely nose with scents of lemon curd, apricot blossom and cold limestone, a touch of mango emerging with time. The palate is extremely well balanced with a fine line of acidity. There is energy and tension here, tightening up towards the finish but still persistent in the mouth. This has great potential, a reserved Criots that should spread its wings once in bottle.Inc. VAT£423.20 -
Jancis Robinson (17.5)
Bottled. A little more subdued on the nose than the Bâtard-Montrachet. But more intense on the palate. Deeper, creamier and more opulent and still with the right balance between zippy fruit and creamy oak.Inc. VAT£3,011.52 -

The 2022 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a terse, stony bouquet with touches of granite, orange pith and grilled walnut aromas that gradually gather momentum in the glass. The palate is very well-balanced, with a reductive note lending tension and poise. Surfeit with energy, this fans out wonderfully and is one of the longest in the mouth. Due to be bottled next spring, this is a magnificent Criots.Inc. VAT£1,203.72 -

Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)
The 2023 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru takes time to unfurl touches of walnut and smoke infusing its citrus fruit notes in the glass. The palate is well balanced, very smooth and slightly creamy in texture with discrete hints of praline and white chocolate. This lingers long in the mouth. It's a beautifully crafted Criots, though I prefer the 2022 at this stage.Inc. VAT£857.20 -
(1x75cl) 2012Vinous (94)
The 2012 Montrachet Grand Cru demonstrates a discrete reduction on the nose that begins to lift with aeration. (For a minute or two I wondered whether there is a bit of TCA). The palate is fresh and sappy with an electrifying line of acidity. You can feel the tension from start to finish and yet it is only beginning to open the first few pages of its story. Superb. Tasted blind at the New World/Old World Chardonnay tasting in London.Inc. VAT£753.20 -
Wine Advocate (95)
Aromas of clear honey, blanched almonds and pear mingle with hints of citrus blossom and orange oil, introducing the 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, elegantly textural wine that's supple and enveloping, with lovely depth and dimension at the core, underpinned by lively acids. Long and perfumed, this is an elegant, expressive Montrachet from Fontaine-Gagnard.Inc. VAT£4,285.56 -
Vinous (95)
The 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru, of which there is one and a half barrels this year (actually the maximum that the domaine produces), has an intense oyster shell and flinty bouquet, touches of hazelnut and white peach developing with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a very slight reduction on the entry, lively and very concentrated with orange rind and quince towards the finish. The new oak from the half barrel is conspicuous at the moment but that will be integrated with time in bottle.Inc. VAT£3,050.64 -

The 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru has an intense nose, quite powerful, maybe the oak a little too present at the moment. The palate is powerful too, touches of tropical fruit infusing the citrus fruit, lightly spiced with a slightly heavy finish. Very fine, but it will require time to absorb the new oak.Inc. There is just one barrel of 2021 Montrachet Grand Cru this year (normally there is one and a half). It has an intense bouquet, though it doesn't quite have the panache of the Bâtard-Montrachet, a hint of menthol emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a dab of stem ginger on the entry, fine depth, powerful and concentrated with an intense finish.Inc. VAT£976.92 -
Vinous (95-97)
The 2022 Montrachet Grand Cru is the only cuvée in two one-year-old barrels. I don't think it needs new oak. There is real energy and complexity here, orange pith and lemon verbena, touches of lemon curd. The palate is beautifully balanced with great depth and power, far more than the Bâtard-Montrachet. It has a beguiling length and precision, velvety smooth, with a hint of walnut on the finish. Divine.Inc. VAT£977.33 -
