Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru la Truffière is initially a little awkward on the nose, but it coalesces in the glass, gaining more intensity and eventually unveiling fine pressed flower scents with a hint of marmalade. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, very focused and poised, saline in the mouth with a brisk, poised and energetic finish, a touch of blackcurrant leaf on the aftertaste. Here the nose is moderately atypical with its array of white pepper, menthol, essence of pear and mineral reduction. There is outstanding volume to the stony and powerful larger-scaled flavors that possess a fleshy, even plump, mid-palate while delivering reasonable length on the vaguely sweet finale.
