Pale lemon and lime in colour. The difference in bouquet compared to the village Chassagne is a slight additional muscularity in bouquet. There is finesse too for this soil. One plot 50+ years old, the other 2003. A little fresh lime at the finish after pure white fruit. Tasted: November 2021Inc. VAT£809.09 -

Mid lemon yellow. This is slightly more perfumed than its neighbour on the nose, and with a striking liveliness on the palate, an excellent balance, a very light menthol here, this will be an excellent Champgains. Tasted: November 2021Inc. VAT£1,398.58 -
(12x75cl) 2021Burghound (90-93)
(Outstanding) A cool, pure, airy and appealingly layered nose displays aromas of mostly acacia blossom and lemon-lime, along with a background hint of crushed fennel. There is excellent energy and a gorgeous texture to the medium weight flavors that flash plenty of minerality on the balanced, nicely dry and sneaky long finish that would also benefit from developing better depth.Inc. VAT£1,734.41 -

Wine Advocate (92-94)
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes unwinds in the glass with aromas of pastry cream, crisp orchard fruit, honeycomb and white flowers. On the palate, it's full-bodied, broad shouldered and powerful, with a dense, blocky profile that is classic Combettes. When I tasted it, the wine was quite reserved and less advanced in its élevage than most of Carillon's other cuvées, but its potential is clearly considerable.Inc. VAT£2,054.81 -

Vinous (92)
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru is well defined on the nose, taut and quite austere and stony, initially delivering moderate intensity but gaining in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and slithers of white peach mixed with nectarine. Quite a seductive and pretty La Folatières that embraces the warmth of the summer but maintains tension and mineralité. This is enticing and promising. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.Inc. VAT£743.83 -
Wine Advocate (92-94+)
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières is very promising indeed, offering up a youthfully reticent bouquet of crushed rocks, ripe citrus oil and white flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and satiny, with lovely purity, a taut, tensile core and a long, precise finish. To my palate, this is the finest Perrières that François Carillon has produced to date.Inc. VAT£1,829.50 -

Pale lemon colour. A fresh elegant nose, quite floral, behind some sulphur. There is a well balanced weight of white fruit, with a little touch of oak to the finish. Middleweight plus, with plenty more to give.Inc. VAT£1,891.27 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (90)
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru is a little more exotic on the nose compared to its peers, with touches of lemon thyme and grapefruit and a background scent of clear honey. The palate is quite intense on the entry, with impressive weight featuring green apple and lemon, creating a mixture of slightly underripe and overripe fruit. They don't quite gel on the finish, thereby denuding this Puligny of focus. The aromatics are actually superior to the palate. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. VAT£1,029.89 -

(12x75cl) 2021Burghound (89-92)
Outstanding Top Value. This is more aromatically elegant still with its nose of acacia blossom, just sliced apple, mandarin orange peel and a whiff of anise. There is superb density for a villages-level Puligny with a caressing if not necessarily sophisticated mouthfeel while delivering impressive depth and persistence. This is quite satisfying and offers excellent value.Inc. VAT£1,029.67 -

(5-Star Wine) François is fortunate enough to have 5.85 hectares of Puligny-Montrachet from six plots. He is planning some parcellaire cuvées in 2023. We are back to finesse with this wine. The 2022 Puligny is beautifully aromatic, with all the floral character one could hope for. This has a brilliantly light touch despite the energy and the intensity. I think it is going to be a show stopper. Excellent natural acidity as well. Drink from 2026-2032.Inc. VAT£967.00 -

The holding of Murgers des Dents de Chien is almost adjacent to the François Carillon plot of Puligny Champs Gains, but there are more white stones here, more earth on the Puligny side. François also notes that there is more wind here on the St-Aubin side, especially in the morning. A considerable depth of yellow. This seems a little backward at this stage, chunky, but with a fine depth of fruit. Plenty of stones behind, a little smoky note, not quite in place but excellent potential Drink from 2027-2034.Inc. The 2018 Meursault Les Tillets comes from 0.66 hectares of vine. It is tighter and more backward on the nose compared to the En La Barre, and slightly earthier in style, with flinty, chalky notes reluctantly unfolding. The well-balanced palate delivers good concentration on the entry and notes of orange zest, white peaches and a healthy dash of lemongrass. Great tension and wonderful spiciness surface on a finish that is more outgoing than the aromatics at the moment. Excellent.Inc. VAT£628.69 -
