Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

Marvelously silky and seamless, with its subtly sweet red fruit flavors complicated by spices, juniper berry and Cuban cigar tobacco and accented by a peppery topnote. At once spherical and firm, this soil-driven beauty has reached its plateau of peak maturity but should hold there for a good while. (-) Medium red. Complex nose melds sweet red fruits, minerals and cocoa. Silky and aromatic in the mouth, with expressive, highly nuanced flavors of red and darker berries, exotic spices, leather, game and flowers, plus an intriguing saline quality. Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Clos Vougeot. Deeper aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, flinty smoky minerality and pepper, along with a whiff of gamey reduction. Bigger, broader and sweeter than the Clos Vougeot, and amazingly supple and plump for a grand cru from this vintage, without any loss of shape. The back end is like a booster rocket of fruits and flowers, which cover the wine's acidity and noble tannins today. I'd love to taste this next to the Clos Vougeot in ten years' time.Inc. Full medium red. Very subdued but pure aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, licorice and wild herbs. Wonderfully rich and dense yet somehow weightless; distinctly wilder than the Clos Vougeot, showing an almost liqueur-like ripeness but also strong acidity to its hard candy flavors. I don't find the Oriental spice character this wine typically demonstrates in the early going, but there's no denying this wine's density and powerful fruit. It will need substantial cellaring to achieve its adult harmony.Inc. VAT£861.72 -

Bright medium red. Redder on the nose than the Clos Vougeot, offering high-pitched aromas of cherry, raspberry and menthol. This seamless wine really glistens on the middle palate and long aftertaste.Inc. VAT£2,778.97 -

Bright medium red. Perfumed scents of black raspberry and espresso are complicated by soil-driven smoke and crushed-rock notes. The richest and most tactile of these young 2014s but also with great finesse to the flavors of red berries, rose petal, saline minerality and pepper. The wine's tannins are serious and deep but not hard. This true-to-its-terroir beauty really saturates the palate under a wave of flavor.Inc. VAT£997.32 -

The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru reveals a lovely bouquet of Asian spices, plums, raspberries and rose petal, with only subtle hints of the savory nuances of soil and espresso to come with bottle age. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with satiny tannins and a broad, open-knit profile. Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (92)
(-) Medium red. Complex nose melds sweet red fruits, minerals and cocoa. Silky and aromatic in the mouth, with expressive, highly nuanced flavors of red and darker berries, exotic spices, leather, game and flowers, plus an intriguing saline quality. This boasts early appeal owing to its sheer sweetness but also possesses a fairly solid tannic spine for aging. In Bond£757.00 -

Medium red. Cherry and sweet spices on the fairly restrained nose, lifted by a floral topnote. Broad, sweet and sexy on the palate, with lovely finesse to the flavors of berries, spices and flowers. Really explosive on the ripe, spicy, seamless aftertaste. A beauty but does this wine have a hidden dimension? In Bond£4,203.00 -
(1x75cl) 2012Vinous (94+)
Full medium red. Very subdued but pure aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, licorice and wild herbs. Wonderfully rich and dense yet somehow weightless; distinctly wilder than the Clos Vougeot, showing an almost liqueur-like ripeness but also strong acidity to its hard candy flavors. I don't find the Oriental spice character this wine typically demonstrates in the early going, but there's no denying this wine's density and powerful fruit. It will need substantial cellaring to achieve its adult harmony. In Bond£715.00 -
(3x75cl) 2013Vinous (93+)
Bright medium red. Redder on the nose than the Clos Vougeot, offering high-pitched aromas of cherry, raspberry and menthol. Combines terrific inner-mouth lift with a refined texture, conveying an impression of tension to the flavors of red cherry, minerals and flowers. The tannins are suave and cool. This seamless wine really glistens on the middle palate and long aftertaste. In Bond£2,306.19 -
Vinous (93+)
Bright medium red. Perfumed scents of black raspberry and espresso are complicated by soil-driven smoke and crushed-rock notes. The richest and most tactile of these young 2014s but also with great finesse to the flavors of red berries, rose petal, saline minerality and pepper. The wine's tannins are serious and deep but not hard. This true-to-its-terroir beauty really saturates the palate under a wave of flavor. In Bond£828.00 -
(3x75cl) 2017Wine Advocate (92-94+)
The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru reveals a lovely bouquet of Asian spices, plums, raspberries and rose petal, with only subtle hints of the savory nuances of soil and espresso to come with bottle age. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with satiny tannins and a broad, open-knit profile. This is a precocious, dramatic Richebourg in the making, and while it will never rival the depth and concentration Gros achieved in 2016 and 2015, it will certainly turn heads in its youth. In Bond£2,277.32 -

Gorgeous glowing purple with an amazing wealth of fruit including some brilliant floral notes. Classic old rose with some peonies too. Full ripe without going over the top.
