Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

Bright, pale, green-tinged yellow. Ripe aromas of mirabelle and nectarine, with an element of exotic spices. Fat, ripe and sweet, with an almost glyceral texture to the nectarine and pink grapefruit flavors. A fat, spicy wine with lowish acidity. This hail-affected parcel was picked at the beginning of the harvest owing to the more fragile grape skins, noted Bernard Billaud. Will make a fat and agreeable chardonnay, although with limited vineyard typicity.Inc. VAT£74.15 -

(from Sur le Clos). A fruit, bright and citrusy nose offers good typicity in the form of sea breeze, algae and iodine. There is good density and reasonably good energy to the round and delicious flavors that terminate in an agreeably dry lemon-tinged finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This should drink well young but a year or two of keeping should help to add depth. In Bond£140.00 -

The 2021 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru has an attractive nose with white peach and light white flower aromas, nicely focused and delineated. The palate is vibrant and edgy, just a bit of CO2 in my sample, although it needs more ballast on the finish. In Bond£219.00 -

Pale lemon colour. Just a little bit smoky yet pleasingly marine as well. Very crunchy saline finish, 2022 is more classic for Vaillons than 2023. White fruit with the lightest of saline lemon rinses. Drink from 2026-2032. Tasted Jul 2024.In Bond£236.00 -

Will make a fat and agreeable chardonnay, although with limited vineyard typicity. In Bond£58.80 -

(from 4 different parcels of 35+ year old vines). Here the wood is subtle though easily perceptible on the mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, orange peel and moderate Chablis elements. On the palate the larger-bodied and more concentrated flavors are also generously proportioned while concluding in a balanced, dry and powerful finish. This could use more depth so a few years of keeping should again prove beneficial. In Bond£221.00 -

5 Star Wine. An even lemon yellow. The concentrated warmth of Montée de Tonnerre is showing here in a very attractive way, a little more compelling than Mont de Milieu. Less flamboyant up front then the 2023 but if anything offering greater intensity behind with really well harnessed marine minerals. Beautiful persistence. Drink from 2027-2034. The 2021 Chablis Vaulorent 1er Cru replaces the Vaillons this year and Billaud's supplier could not deliver - only two barrels-worth. It has a taut and crisp bouquet with green apple and light wild peach aromas. The palate is firm with nice acidity; it's linear and correct with hints of white peach and pear towards the pretty finish. Very fine.In Bond£252.00 -

The 2021 Chablis Village is a clear step up from the Petit Chablis this year with more presence and intensity on the nose. The palate is balanced with red apple and orange pith on the entry and fine acidity, but this has a slightly conservative finish that needs more terroir expression. In Bond£166.00 -

Pale lemon yellow, with a delicious. This is proper classical Chablis and is already good to drink, though will keep nicely. An oyster shell salinity features notably and the wine is properly persistent for a straight Chablis. Drink from 2024-2028. Tasted Jul 2024.In Bond£222.68 -
