The 2004 Brut Spécial Club bursts from the glass with terrific energy and sheer class. It captures all of the potential of a year that was especially favorable to Chardonnay. There is plenty of nuance and detail in the glass. The 2004 shows off tons of personality and sheer class. Mint, sage and eucalyptus are some of the notes that wrap around the finish. This is first-class all the way. It is also one of the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Chiquet. The 2004 Special Club is 70% Chardonnay (from Dizy), 30% Pinot Noir (from ay and Hautvillers). Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Disgorged July 2011.Inc. VAT£1,458.07 -

Pale gold. Buttery citrus and orchard fruits on the fragrant nose, with hints of jasmine and vanilla adding complexity. Smells like there's some oak in play here, but there isn't. Lush and creamy but lively as well, offering smoky pear and nectarine flavors and a hint of bitter lemon pith. Turns firm and minerally on the penetrating finish, with repeating smoke and citrus notes. Disgorged in September, 2013.Inc. VAT£485.44 -

The 2015 Brut Nature Les Chênes, 100% Chardonnay, is dense and powerful from the very first taste. Soaring aromatics literally explode from the glass. Vivid and dazzling in its beauty, the 2015 possesses extraordinary intensity in every dimension. Vincent Laval opened this bottle à la volée, but does not expect to add any dosage, so this note should be quite representative of the final commercial release. Chardonnay is rarely this deep, complex or pedigreed.Inc. VAT£3,591.86 -

The NV (2023) Extra-Brut Garennes is a blend of vintages 2023 back to 2013. Soft and open-knit, the Garennes caresses the palate with hints of orchard fruit, chamomile, dried flowers and spice. The lifted, ethereal style is quite attractive. This is the most open-knit of Vincent Laval's new releases. I would give it a bit of aeration. This release was aged for 11 months in French oak, with some lees-stirring. Dosage is 1 gram per liter. Disgorged: November 2025.Inc. VAT£497.44 -

Gosset's 2004 Extra Brut Celebris is a powerful, bracing wine. Pinot Noir-infused red stone fruits, dried leaves, mint, herbs and spice notes, along with the low dosage, give the wine its distinctive combination of power, breadth and raciness. The 2004 needs a bit of time for the bouquet to open up, but when they do, the wine is quite expressive. Now 12 years after the vintage, the 2004 Celebris offers a good bit of aromatic and flavor intensity, with the slightly mature notes that are typical for a wine of this age. Chamomile, honey and lightly roasted almond are some of the nuances that linger through to the creamy, expansive finish. The 2005 is 55% Chardonnay (from Chouilly, Cramant and Le Mesnil sur Oger) and 45% Pinot Noir (from Aÿ, Bouzy and Verzy).Inc. VAT£873.04 -

The 2007 Extra-Brut Vintage Celebris is a great example of the house style. Powerful and rich, the 2007 possesses tremendous vinous intensity, buffered by low dosage that gives the wine ts sense if classic austerity. Orchard fruit, apricot, tangerine oil and white flowers develop with a bit of coaxing. The Celebris is a big, broad-shouldered Champagne for the dinner table.Inc. VAT£553.84 -

The nose of the golden wine immediately radiates creaminess, a soft richness that is reminiscent of freshly baked apricot and almond tart and red apple flesh, laced with fine, heady notions of freshly zested Tarocco orange peel. The palate is as creamy as the nose suggests, yet has the poise and the beautiful, salty depth of 2008. A lovely phenolic edge reminds of bitter almond and apple pip, this sits well with the sinuous, toned and lightly salty richness, the ultra-fine mousse and that lovely streak of ripe lemon zest. Gosset is the oldest house in Champagne, and is a favourite among wine trade insiders. This non-vintage cuvée is redolent with the aromas of mellow red apple fruit. Based on the 2019 vintage and disgorged in February 2024 with 1.5 grams per liter dosage, Guillaume Selosse’s NV Blanc de Noirs Largillier, as usual, derives from the same vines within the monopole of Jérôme Coessens in Aube and is made at the former Jacques Selosse cellar in Avize, which is located at street level and is considerably drier. After spending two years in barrels, with minimal topping up, the wine with its lees is then transferred for an additional year in a horizontal 28-hectoliter stainless steel tank to complement the 300 liters of historical blend (reserve). In other words, the wine is matured on its fine lees for three full years before bottling. All this effort is based on the raw material itself, as the fruit, even picked at end of harvest at high maturity, has a very low pH with a laser-like profile, hence the choice of long élevage. Wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of toasted nuts, dried fruit, tangerine zest and spices, it’s flamboyant and textural with a tangy line of acidity and chalky structuring extract bringing freshness to its generous profile. I must report that it’s one of the last releases of this superb cuvée. “I've understood the terroir and have decided to stop with the 2021 vintage, as I want to dedicate my full attention to Jacques Selosse and Au Dessus du Gros Mont, the plots that we own," Guillaume explains.Inc.
