(6x75cl) 2016Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96)
Readers will find a rich, flamboyant wine in the 2016 Barde-Haut. There is not a ton of subtlety here, but I am not sure that matters all that much given how immensely pleasing the 2016 is. Crushed rocks, graphite, lavender, blackberry, plum, and violet infuse a Saint-Émilion that offers tremendous textural richness as well as vibrancy. Most importantly of all, the 2016 is flat-out delicious. This is a decidedly opulent, dark Saint-Émilion with all of the elements impeccably balanced. I loved it.Inc. VAT£284.44 -

The 2019 Barde-Haut is beautifully defined on the nose, very pure with precise blackberry, briary, violets and iris flower, harmonious. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiseled tannins, cohesive and mineral-driven; the terroir is very expressive towards the finish that lingers in the mouth. Wonderful, assured and with great potential. Tasted at the Barde-Haut vertical at the château.Inc. VAT£388.15 -

The 2020 Barde-Haut is just as compelling it was from barrel. Blueberry jam, crème de cassis, hard candy, spice, new leather and lavender infuse the 2020 with exotic beauty. Soft contours and silky tannins add to its immediacy. Bright acids lend vibrancy to play off all the natural opulence. The 2020 is a fine vintage of Barde-Haut, one of the best in recent memory. The intensely saline finish alone is a thing of beauty.Inc. VAT£276.80 -

The Domaine has two plots of Montrachet, lucky people, the one on the Chassagne side being planted in 1945. A fair proportion is sold in bulk to certain regular customers but a few barrels are kept for their own use. There is one new barrel from each of their five tonneliers (plus a couple in older wood) and we had great fun tasting each of the new barrels. There were some taste differences: a touch of coconut from Cadus, sweeter fruit from Séguin Moreau, elegance from Tremeaux, more exotic from Rousseau and perhaps more fascinating was where the fruit sat on the palate: in the middle from Cadus, evenly spread from Rousseau and with a surge to the back from Chassin, which offered the most complete experience of the five. Talking of complete, here is the note on the combined blend, including the older wood: Fresh pale yellow gold colour with a light green inflection. This is followed by a delicious complex and balanced nose, with many layers, a clear sense of distinction, a burst of sunshine fruit at the front of the palate which is then maintained through to an even finish. Balanced and juicy with a long, perfumed aftertaste.Inc. VAT£6,499.30 -

Balanced and juicy with a long, perfumed aftertaste. In Bond£5,377.50 -

Balanced and juicy with a long, perfumed aftertaste. In Bond£2,256.00 -
