(6x75cl) 2023Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)
Taken from a foudre rather than cask, the 2023 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru has an enticing bouquet with wonderfully defined red berry fruit, hints of tobacco and forest floor, delivering the complexity you'd expect from arguably Jadot's strongest red cuvée in the Côte de Beaune. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. Displaying exquisite balance and poise with plenty of nascent energy and a sustained, lightly spiced finish, this 2023 is up to the task of following the impressive 2022. Superb.Inc. VAT£704.00 -
(1x75cl) 2014Vinous (95+)
(from estate vines in Pougets, facing southeast): Bright yellow. Reticent but pure scents and flavors of ginger, gentian, fresh herbs and menthol convey strong soil-driven energy. More about minerals than fruit but this wonderfully juicy wine boasts terrific thrust and early personality, not to mention outstanding flavor intensity and generosity. FYI: the cellar price for this wine is 80 Euros, while the Montrachet sells for 500. You make the call.Inc. VAT£264.25 -

Cask sample. Tantalising aroma – so young but you can sense the potential. Deep, pure citrus, barely inflected by the creamy oak but given breadth and texture by it. Deep with richness that borders on just-ripe pear even though the lemon purity drives to the finish. It may well age longer but these days I am more cautious with white burgundy.Inc. VAT£949.24 -
James Suckling (97)
This has beautiful purity with striking aromas of lemons and limes, as well as fresh yellow grapefruit and a strong, wet-stone edge. The palate has immense power with precision and focus, delivering a long and regal finish with such power and length. Three hectares in Corton with 1.8 planted to white grapes. Try from 2022.Inc. VAT£1,147.92 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a fresh bouquet of fennel, mint and light hazelnut aromas, all complementing the citrus fruit. The palate is vibrant and fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity. Harmonious from start to finish, it delivers an appealing spiciness that leaves the tongue tingling, thanks to a dab of ginger on the aftertaste. Very fine.Inc. VAT£1,077.12 -
Tim Atkin MW (96)
This comes from southern-facing vines and possesses an exotic collection of aromas. Among them are bananas, rainwater, sweet spice and dried flowers. Gorgeously scented with an equally perfumed palate that haunts the long finish, this is very much a beckoning, come-hither kind of wine. Again, the various appellations of Corton just crush it in this vintage! 2022-34Inc. VAT£1,102.32 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
Fresh clear colour, with a sense of weight but more crystalline here as you would hope. A little lemony note alongside a waxiness, promising. Tight and long, as yet undemonstrative, but this may very well grow further from here. Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2022Inc. VAT£692.76 -

Recently stirred so cloudy. Affects the bouquet too, so that is hard to judge. Unquestioned weight, plenty of energy, the lees with the wood shows more at the finish. No reason why this should not be an excellent wine. Another sample was produced, representing the component raised in foudre only, 10 barrels worth, so one third of the whole, has a clear pale lemon and lime colour. The fruit is clearly ripe but with no signs of exotic fruit. This fills the palate beautifully, a little citrus, enough white fruit flesh and then a long stony finish. Absolutely what it should be, and in 2022 something more. Drink from 2032-2040+. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. VAT£774.36 -
(3x75cl) 2023Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-96)
Mid lemon yellow. Strict, fine and expressing the stony character of the vineyard more than the exuberance of the vintage. This is actually perfectly balanced, with just the right ripeness on the palate too. A fine minerality. Poise, class and length, very good. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024.Expected Price Range£588 - £719 -

Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)
The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru shakes off a little reduction to reveal more black fruit compared to the Feusselottes, broodier and distinctly marine-influenced. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of licorice on the entry and a long, sweet finish. There is some oak here to be subsumed, but I like the weight and density in the mouth. Give it three or four years in bottle to absorb the wood.Inc. VAT£640.46 -

Vinous (96-99)
Healthy dark red. Knockout pungent aromas and flavors of pomegranate, red raspberry, blood orange and high-pitched spices, with the 33% whole-cluster treatment contributing an element of peppery lift. Boasts a nobly fine-grained texture but it's hard to describe this wine as silky owing to its almost painful penetration on the palate. Great éclat and precision here. Finishes with incredible tactile breadth and cut, the wine's rising, palate-saturating flavors of red berries, spices, flowers and minerals blowing past its firm but utterly refined tannins. This dazzling Musigny already displays incredibly heady, complex perfume but will need a decade or more to approach its apogee in bottle.Inc. VAT£3,404.42 -
Jancis Robinson (16.5+)
Cask sample. Sweet and round on the nose. Perhaps just a bit sweet and simple? May become more interesting. There’s a cool chewy element on the palate that promises well for the future although at the moment it manifests itself in a note of grapefruit-peel bitterness.Inc. VAT£410.75 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Garenne 1er Cru is more perfumed and floral than the La Garenne. Peach skin and rosewater touches make this very seductive. The palate is composed and harmonious but needs a little more nervosité, yet the finish is very harmonious and tender. Excellent.Inc. VAT£356.35 -

Fine mid yellow. The bouquet is beguiling, an attractive but not exaggerated ripeness, the steely backbone one hopes for well covered in fruit, and a fine long finish. Excellent aftertaste. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted: October 2023.Inc. VAT£366.40 -

The 2020 Beaune Grèves le Clos Blanc 1er Cru has a light patisserie touch on the nose, the scent of walking into a French bakery and that subtle whiff of almond croissants! The 2020 Beaune Les Theurons 1er Cru has a much more introverted bouquet compared to the Grèves, with an attractive marine element, hints of kelp and shucked oyster shell percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine line of acidity, lightly spiced with a detailed and quite peppery finish. Excellent.Inc. VAT£298.40 -

Cask sample. Pale garnet. Slightly smudgy nose. Still quite chewy with fine tannins and marked but not excessive acidity. Needs time but should be a vigorous pleasurable drink eventually.Inc. VAT£312.80 -

Bright, moderately saturated medium red. Pure rose petal lift to the aromas of raspberry, menthol and spices. Rather plush and smooth in the context of the year but with surprising inner-mouth lift and smoky minerality to energize its red fruit and spice flavors. This fine-grained, savory, youthful wine finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and sneaky length and lift.Inc. VAT£452.00 -

Cask sample. Weak rim on mid crimson. Nervy Chambolle nose with some ethereal quality. And then an extremely sweet palate. Solidly expressive with flattering fruit and a really very stunning nose. This could be a star.Inc. VAT£777.64 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)
Fine deep crimson colour, the thicker style of a Morey-side Chambolle, both on the nose and the palate. Quite firm tannins, a fair acidity and a mixed dark fruit which returns behind. Sound, though some other wines offer more joy. Tasted: November 2021Inc. VAT£609.49 -

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru has a composed bouquet with brambly red fruit, orange rind, sous-bois and light tobacco scents. It's refined and focused.
