Pungent aromas of wood and reduction lead to almost painfully intense middle weight flavors that also possess an appealing texture that is at once rich and nicely detailed, all wrapped in lingering finish that is appealingly complex. This is very pretty and while it will likely need 12-ish years to arrive at its apogee, it should be approachable after only 5 to 7.Inc. VAT£1,436.69 -

One of the all-time great vintages for this château is the 1989 Lynch-Bages, a striking wine that offers up pure and intense aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, spring flowers and hints of cigar wrapper. Full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's seamless and concentrated, with a rich core of fruit, ripe tannins and a beautifully defined finish. Still an infant at age 32, it surpasses all three of Pauillac's first growths in 1989.Inc. VAT£5,557.74 -
(12x75cl) 1991Wine Advocate (86)
Lynch Bages has fashioned an attractive, medium-bodied, soft wine in 1991. It would make a noteworthy bargain if it were selling for under $18 a bottle. The color is dense, and the nose offers up bold cassis aromas intertwined with earth and new oak. The wine is moderately deep, reveals some tannin, but finishes quickly. It is a good, ripe, light to medium-weight Lynch Bages that is best drunk over the next 7-8 years.Inc. VAT£1,379.80 -

(73% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot; 5.11 g/ltotal acidity; 13.2% alcohol): Dark ruby-red with a hint of garnet at the rim. Crème de cassis complemented by floral, tobacco and incense notes on the brightly aromatic nose. Very well balanced, clean, and juicy, with good inner-mouth perfume and energy to the dark fruit, cedar, herb and graphite flavors. The finish features mounting tannins that teeter on the brink of drying. This seems to have picked up some flesh and volume with bottle age, but I hope the fruit outlives the tannins.
