Extremely brambly with incense, savory spice and smoked meats, this is an exotic Vosne. There is extraordinary fruit concentration that vies with the remarkably well-tamed tannins. It's the acidity that powers the structure, and it is downright mouth-watering. Three barrels – all new oak – were made in 2020. 2024-45Inc. VAT£2,110.92 -

Vinous (95-97)
The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1er Cru has a compelling bouquet, mainly red fruit with hints of blueberry, pressed violet and a distant tang of shucked oyster shells. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled, slightly chalky tannins, fresh and marine-influenced with a long saline finish. This shows the breeding of this Premier Cru, quintessential Cros Parantoux, a total victory over a difficult growing season. Divine. Two and a half barrels produced.Inc. VAT£1,918.79 -
Vinous (95+)
Saturated bright ruby-red. Knockout nose combines black raspberry, licorice, minerals, meat and smoke. Large-scaled and impressively dense, with superb energy to the dark fruit, licorice, mineral, spice and game flavors. The explosive finish is like an avalanche over the palate, driving out everything in its wake. Substantial ripe tannins are hidden by complex finishing flavors of red fruits, smoked meat and leather. For all its soil-driven wildness, this sappy, extract-rich wine is quite pristine. Should be a monumental bottle by 2020.Inc. VAT£1,421.33 -

Very good deep red. Black fruits, licorice, dark chocolate and sweet oak on the very ripe nose. Large-scaled and compellingly sweet, with wonderfully ripe, sappy dark berry flavors conveying a chewy impression of solidity. A very ripe 2006 whose solid tannic backbone and excellent persistence suggest that it will evolve slowly. If you can't wait to taste this, give it time in a decanter first.Inc. VAT£1,116.53 -
(3x75cl) 2010Vinous (96)
Bright full, medium red. A real wake-up call on the nose, offering sappy black and red cherry fruit aromas complicated by crushed-rock minerality and notes of rose petal and violet; an essence of Burgundy. Then generous and dense but weightless on the palate, and less austere today than the Clos Vougeot and Corton Clos Rognets, showing salty, chewy flavors of cherry, stone, flowers and minerals and conveying a powerful impression of sappiness. Finishes with explosive palate-staining energy and captivating high-pitched perfume. A great vintage for this consistently outstanding premier cru, and in need of 10 to 12 years of cellaring. These 2010s have it all.Inc. VAT£5,040.73 -
Vinous (94-97)
Saturated ruby-red. Aromatic and very pure but restrained on the nose, offering high-pitched aromas of dark raspberry, black cherry, flowers, spices and minerals. Impressively concentrated and dense yet light on its feet, with its very intense flavors of dark fruits, spices and flowers enlivened by saline tension. Almost painful in the middle palate in the early going, this wine finishes with firm but suave tannins and outstanding lingering perfume. Méo did not add SO2 in the fermenter because this wine often has reduction issues. With its fruit of steel, this beauty should enjoy a long life in bottle.Inc. VAT£2,318.76 -
(1x75cl) 2017Decanter (96)
The delicious 2017 Brulées from Méo has classically smoky red and blackberry fruit aromas with a pleasant floral edge and a bit of spice. The texture is surprisingly compact for the vintage, with a tannic grip and reserves of extract that suggest it will age very well. Although it is starting to open now, I suggest another couple of years in the bottle to let it develop. The grapes are from Méo’s nearly three-quarters hectare of ancient vines in this prime location.Inc. VAT£658.40 -

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées is brilliant, unfurling in the glass with an exquisite bouquet of sweet red berries, cherries, orange rind, smoked duck and exotic spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and enveloping wine framed by velvety tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long and youthfully chalky finish. From a parcel planted in the 1930s, I often think that Aux Brûlées is Méo's finest wine; and while I'd give the Cros Parantoux the edge this year, it is a superb effort.Inc. VAT£1,704.36 -

Beautiful blueberry and purple fruits scented with violets and vanilla pop from the glass. The creamy, almost lusty, palate texture is held up by crackling acidity more than the soft, cuddly tannins. Bright ruby-red. Spicy blackberry and blackcurrant aromas complicated by floral, animal and tarry nuances. Densely packed but bright, with lively acidity and well-defined fruit flavors. Nicely pliant and easygoing. Finishes with ripe tannins and a distinct component of sweet oak. Meo experimented with a bit of reverse osmosis on this cuvee, eliminating about 5% of the water.Inc. An exuberantly spicy nose is composed primarily of ripe black pinot fruit and violet aromas. There is a refined mouth feel to the middle weight flavors that are supported by ripe and fine tannins before culminating in a linear and tight but balanced finish that delivers excellent depth and length. This is better than it usually is as there is more underlying material. Note that this lovely effort should be approachable young.Inc. VAT£337.45 -

Fresh purple with some intensity. A little bit of wood on the nose, and a fruit which suggests that it needs more elevage. Quite strict despite the mix of pure red and tending to black fruit. The 2012 Vosne-Romanee Village comes from two parcels in “Les Barreaux” and “Aux Communes”, the former representing a good 70% of the blend. It is actually one of the last cuvees to be harvested as it is a cool site. It has a tightly wound, slightly laconic bouquet that takes some coaxing from the glass, eventually offering black rather than red tertiary fruit. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut red berry fruit with a crisp, chalky structure towards the finish. This will probably need two or three years in bottle to really unfurl.Inc. VAT£204.53 -
Vinous (88-90)
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village was a little sullen when I tasted the barrel sample, offering broody black fruit and quite a strong marine influence plus a touch of black olive. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, quite Morey-like in terms of structure, leading to a more austere finish than some of its peers at the moment. Will need time.Inc. VAT£152.00 -
Savour the complexity of the Meyney 1981, a riveting vintage from the storied Chateau Meyney of Bordeaux's Saint Estèphe region. As a distinguished Bordeaux Superieur, this wine exudes the meticulosity of the winemaking process. The vineyard, established in the 17th century, boasts a remarkable location next to the river Gironde, leading to a unique terroir that damasks itself into layers of flavour.
The Meyney 1981 reveals its age through pronounced tannins and a striking boldness on the palate. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, the wine offers a nod to tradition while expressing individuality. Expect notes of ripe fruit, truffle, and tobacco, elegantly underpinned by a subtle touch of oak from 18 months in French barrels.
An embodiment of Chateau Meyney's commitment to excellence, the Meyney 1981 remains a testament to the enduring appeal of fine Bordeaux wines.

The 2012 Meyney is a deep, structured wine with a lot going on in the glass. The expressive bouquet alone is enticing, but all the elements simply come together effortlessly. The delightful 2014 Meyney marks a year when winemaker Anne Le Naour and her team raised their game once more.
