Vinous (93-95)
Including just shy of 40% whole cluster, the 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has an outstanding bouquet of beautifully defined brambly red fruit, commingling with crushed stone and wilted rose petal scents. The tensile palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a crisp, structured, classically styled finish. Bon vin.Inc. VAT£857.89 -

40% whole bunch vinification. Dense rich purple. The nose is startlingly fine in rich dark raspberry fruit. Les St-Georges was hailed on which seems just to concentrate the wine. A massive wealth of fruit, drier at the back than the super saturated front, but that will come better into focus by the end of the elevage. Very promising. A light coffee note? Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted: November 2023.Inc. VAT£516.40 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)
Three tanks were made, two destemmed and the third with 70% stems, averaging out to 20% approximately, with tanks of differing sizes. A medium deep crimson ruby. Very appealing on the nose, neither too ripe nor too concentrated, and the red and black fruit on the palate is livened up by a surprising salinity – squid ink suggests Thibault, not a descriptor that really enthuses me, but I think this is going to be a first class Les St-Georges. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted Nov 2024.Expected Price Range£378 - £462 -

Good deep red. Pungent aromas of dark berries, crushed rock and exotic spices. Dense, tactile and sappy, with the energy to leaven its almost liqueur-like texture. As chewy as a solid, yet the extremely long finish displays outstanding peppery lift and perfume. Liger-Belair suggests drinking this one in 2030!Inc. VAT£8,317.18 -
Vinous (96+)
Bright full red. Wild, expressive aromas of raspberry, flinty minerality and pungent spices. Delivers outstanding power and palate-staining richness, with intense, sweet berry and dark cherry fruit complicated by saline, soil-driven minerality. This complex and complete, if youthfully strict, wine is the total package. With its noble, harmonious tannins and echoing fruits and minerals, this great grand cru saturates every square millimeter of the palate.Inc. VAT£6,262.32 -

A drop-dead gorgeous beauty, the 2012 Richebourg takes hold of all the senses with a kaleidoscope of aromas and flavors that is truly breathtaking. This is a gracious Richebourg that adds considerable finesse to all of the structure one expects to find. Violets, cloves, new leather and black fruit are all supported by veins of cool, incisive minerality. The flavors are intense and resonant, with tons of mineral drive and pure energy. What a magnificent wine this is. Liger-Belair vinified the Richebourg with fully destemmed fruit.Inc. VAT£4,938.00 -

Cask sample. Strongly reductive nose. Compressed, sweet fruit with a lot of generous oak spice. Wonderfully layered tannin – extremely fine, yet very persistent. Finishes with a long, symphonic persistence. Needs time for the nose to absorb the sulphur, but when it does this will be stellar.Inc. VAT£817.22 -
(3x150cl) 2017Vinous (95)
The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru has a deep, broody nose of dark berry fruit, crushed stone, espresso and touches of allspice. Aeration really benefits these aromatics and allows them to open and gain more red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a lactic note on the entry, and quite oaky, though it is simpatico with the concentrated fruit. Displaying great depth and backbone, this is a powerful and aristocratic Grand Cru that will require several years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Inc. VAT£5,764.84 -

The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru far surpassed my and indeed every attendee's expectations. Admittedly, there is some reduction on the nose, but here it is no problem, as one can easily discern the tightly packed ripe red berry fruit that will burst forth in the future. The palate is beautifully balanced with svelte tannins, lovely poise and tangible energy. Bright red berry fruit, white pepper and Szechuan peppers leave the tongue tingling. It retains impressive freshness and delineation all the way through to the bravura finish. Superb. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Inc. VAT£3,531.13 -

(the crop was down 50% due to the frost; 100% destemmed): Dark ruby-red. Inviting, rich aromas of black raspberry, flowers and bitter chocolate are accompanied by a positive hint of iodiney reduction. Sappy and vinous in the mouth, showing excellent energy to its flavors of dark raspberry, blackberry, spices, flowers and saline minerality. Finishes very long and fresh, with repeating notes of flowers and salty minerals and firm, spicy tannins that spread out and build. This wine will likely require at least a few years to harmonize in bottle and should last very well. A superb village wine in the making--Liger-Belair describes this site as village-plus. Racy and thrilling, this hits the spot in terms of direct and punchy yellow fruit flavours - lemon, grapefruit, orange and quince with a crisp texture and fine bubbles that fill the mouth. Such tension and precision. It has a sharp yet also mouthwatering acidity giving you a push pull of intensity and generosity. It's super dry and gives a raciness to the overall impression with very tiny hints of sweetness providing the round feel that's so appealing. Shines brightly and still feels so youthful, such a long ageing potential yet. I like the energy and the persistence here, it's clean and finessed. The second vintage released on the Place de Bordeaux, a 100% Chardonnay from Avize made with no malolactic fermented and aged only in stainless steel tanks. A beautiful light, white gold colour in the glass, belying its 12 year age. So lifted, fresh and lively on the nose, pure and precise with citrus fruit and green orchard fruit aromatics - lemon and lime zest. Clean and clear on the palate, a true and transparent expression of succulent Chardonnay with energy, focus and interest. Balanced and harmonious, nothing out of place, not too sharp or too intense - a dosage of 2g/l 'was sufficient' says winemaker Nicolas Uriel and it really works to give a generous but controlled mouthfeel with lift, brightness and cool freshness all the way through, especially on the finish. Tasted in two components, and there's no guarantee that these are the ones that Allemand will ultimately blend for this bottling: #1: From argilo-calcaire soils; vivid red berries and cherry on the nose and in the mouth. Shows very good energy and clarity, with strong finishing cut and length. #2: From more granitic soils; deeper, darker and altogether more masculine, with black and blue fruit flavors and a bracing spine of minerality. Shows a suave blend of power and energy and finishes with firm mineral bite and excellent persistence.Inc. VAT£259.73 -
