The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin "Ostrea" has a more complex bouquet than the regular Gevrey Village cru, leaning a little more to the red side of the fruit spectrum than the black, with chalk and limestone scents emerging with aeration. But there is more to the 2007 than just flamboyance. It remains a very young wine, mostly built on fruit, with not a lot of aromatic nuance. I imagine that will come with time. Today, the 2007 is a wine to admire for its power, structure and potential. Super-ripe black cherry, coffee, licorice and dark spice are some of the nuances that linger on the substantial finish. Time in bottle has brought with it lovely complexity, especially in the aromatics. On the palate, though, the 2010 is so young. Swaths of tannin and bright acids suggest the 2010 still needs time to be at its best. As for the wine’s pedigree and quality, those are unmistakably world-class. Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (94+)
Very closed chalky, minerally nose. Even less forthcoming than the Riesling Frédéric Emile , and much harder to taste today. Quite dense and tactile. Then very long and ripe on the firm finish; conveys an impression of crunchy, minerally austerity. In Bond£771.00
