Located just to the east of Angélus and bordering Canon, the 2016 Vieux Château Mazerat is 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc brought up in 80% new oak. Huge blackcurrant, smoke, and barbecue notes along with some hints of meat, licorice, and spice all emerge from this rich, full-bodied, fleshy, meaty effort. It displays plenty of underlying minerality, some charcoal, and gravelly minerality, building tannins, and a long finish.Inc. VAT£546.80 -

From vines near Angelus and Canon that's a blend of 65% Merlot and % Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Vieux Chateau Mazerat sports a deep purple hue as well as loads of blueberry, red plum, and spiced, black cherry fruits, full-bodied richness, plenty of chocolatey minerality and a great finish. This rich, powerful, concentrated 2017 is going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and drink beautifully for 15 years.Inc. VAT£104.93 -

The 2019 Vieux Château Mazerat might be my favorite wine in the lineup from Jonathan Maltus, and it's just a stunning wine that shows the classic, elegant style of the vintage beautifully. Cassis, black cherries, loamy earth, chalky mineral, and dried flower notes all emerge from the glass, and this beauty is medium to full -bodied, has flawless balance, plenty of silky tannins, and a great, great finish. It's stunning stuff that will benefit from 5-7 years of bottle age and cruise for 25-30 years in cold cellars.Inc. VAT£440.00 -
(6x75cl) 2020Jeb Dunnuck (94-96+)
The 2020 Vieux Château Mazerat reveals a vivid purple hue to go with medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of cassis, blueberries, scorched earth, and graphite. While Maltus’s Le Dôme gets most of the attention, I continue to just love this wine, and it shines in 2020 with both beautiful fruit and ample structure as well as one heck of a great finish. I’m not sure this will match the 2018 or 2019, but we’re certainly in the same ballpark, with the style being much closer to the more elegant 2019.Inc. VAT£507.20 -

Coming from vines just around the next château, the 2021 Vieux Château Mazerat is 90% Merlot (which is more Merlot than usual) and 10% Cabernet Franc that was brought up in 80% new oak. It's a gorgeous wine that has notes of ripe red and black fruits mixed with camphor, leather, and spicy tobacco in a medium-bodied, elegant, finesse-driven style that carries lots of minerality.Inc. The 2018 Vieux Château Saint André is owned by the Berrouet family, of course, synonymous with Petrus. It has a lovely nose of lilting red berry fruit and a light saline influence, hints of orange blossom emerging with continued aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and very well-judged acidity. This Montagne Saint-Émilion has a bit of bite, especially on the tensile finish. Berrouet’s magic touch shows here.Inc. VAT£143.38 -

Exceptionally good, there is such heart to this wine, with rugged-textured tannins, edges of slate and salted black chocolate, sculpted blueberry fruits, touch of sage and fresh earth. Great stuff from owners and winemakers Jean-Claude and Jeff Berrouet. Will soften over next few years, but no need to wait too long to get going on this lovely wine. 20% new oak.Inc. VAT£145.78 -
(6x75cl) 2019Few beverages showcase the alchemy of wine-making as vividly as the Vieux Chevrol 2019. Crafted in the clay and limestone terrain of Lalande de Pomerol, this Bordeaux wine is a testament to the beauty of intricate subtlety and refined richness. Vieux Chevrol has been keeping the tradition of wine-making alive since the 19th century. Following a philosophy of minimal intervention, the skilled artisans here have managed to harmoniously blend 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon to create the Vieux Chevrol 2019.
Each sip unfolds a complex symphony of ripe red and black fruit paired with refined notes of spice. The Vieux Chevrol 2019 possesses a lush texture, marked by structured tannins and a lengthy finish. A noteworthy vintage, it perfectly encapsulates the essence of Vieux Chevrol’s historical viticultural practices and relentless passion for quality. Elegant and rewarding, Vieux Chevrol 2019 truly is a wine for the discerning palate.

The elegant 2000 Vieux Telegraphe La Crau possesses 14.8% alcohol, along with a deep ruby/purple color, charming, rich, fruitiness, and firm tannin in the finish. With loads of freshness, copious quantities of pepper, seaweed, and black fruit characteristics, and a distinctive minerality, this full-bodied, sweet 2000 requires 2-3 years of cellaring; it should age well for 15-16 years. One of the most age-worthy cuvees in the appellation, Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe’s 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape was gorgeous on this occasion, showing classic iodine, seaweed and peppery herbs intermixed with layers of sweet currant, plum and blackberry fruits. Full-bodied, powerful and ripe, with a still youthful profile, this beauty won’t hit full maturity for another 3-4 years, and should hold for a decade or more after that.Inc. VAT£116.80 -

The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe may be the greatest wine made at this property since the 2005 and 1998. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with an exquisite nose of salty sea breezes, licorice, ground pepper, jammy black cherries, black currants, figs, and plums, this is a full-bodied, rich, Provencal-styled offering with lots of sweet, ripe tannin. It is surprisingly accessible for a Vieux Telegraphe (this wine normally shuts down several years after bottling), but it should have great longevity (25+ years) given its power, full-bodied mouthfeel, and enormous length and richness. This is a brilliant effort from brothers Frederic and Daniel Brunier.Inc. VAT£869.95 -
