  • Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Roussanne VV 2021 (3x75cl)

    James Suckling (97-98)

Brimming with citrus and acacia-blossom aromas, this extremely concentrated dry white has astonishing tension and vitality for this appellation. How can you resist the floral honey note at the fleshy heart of this masterpiece, or the astonishing mineral freshness at the super-long finish? 100% roussanne from ancient vines. From organically grown grapes.

  • Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Roussanne VV 2022 (1x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (100)

Brought up all in new demi-muids and barrels, the 100% Roussanne 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Roussanne Vielles Vignes offers a heavenly bouquet of ripe quince, acacia flowers, toasted almonds, citrus oil, and spice. Ful-bodied, deep, concentrated, and layered, with an unctuous style, this is pure Beaucastel magic. Reminding me of the 2009 (which is drinking brilliantly today), it deserves 2-4 years of bottle age and will absolutely blow you away over the following decade or more.
  • Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Roussanne VV 2023 (6x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (98)

There are roughly 600 cases of the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes, a 100% Roussanne from very old vines brought up 50% new oak and 50% once-used. It too is flat-out awesome, with honeyed quince, green almond, white flowers, orange liqueur, and a liqueur of rocks-like minerality. It's full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, fabulous concentration, and a finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. If you see it, buy it. I don’t see this being the longest-lived vintage of this cuvée, but who cares? It’s sensational stuff.
  • Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin 1994 (1x75cl)
  • Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2005 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (98)

The 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin is spectacular. A minty streak rises effortlessly from the glass, mingling with cured meat and tobacco to form a haunting aromatic profile that sends shivers down the spine. Full-bodied yet almost weightless, the 2005 carries itself with stunning equilibrium, flowing seamlessly into a finish of outstanding length and refinement. What more could one want? Both powerful and ethereal, this is a benchmark Hommage at its most profound.
  • Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2007 (1x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (100)

The star of the show was the 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage À Jacques Perrin, which in this vintage is a classic blend of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah, and the rest Counoise and Grenache. Inky colored and insanely perfumed, with to-die-for notes of lavender, Provencal herbs, roasted meats, black cherries, truffle, crème de cassis and licorice, it flows onto the palate with massive concentration, a stunning mid-palate and a thick, rich texture that never gets heavy or cumbersome. This is blockbuster stuff that just could not get any better. Drink it anytime over the coming 3-4 decades.

  • Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2009 (3x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (99+)

Easily one of the top wines of the vintage and an utterly profound wine, the just bottled 2009 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin, 70% Mourvèdre and the rest an even split of Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise, aged all in foudre, delivers a brilliant array of pure blackberry, blueberry, meat, truffle, and licorice-like characteristics on the nose. Intense and yet focused at the same time, this shows astounding purity of fruit as well as background complexity. Full-bodied, massively structured and fruited on the palate, the wine is perfectly balanced, possesses a huge, mouth filling texture, amazing focus and precision, and a blockbuster finish. This cuvee is surprisingly accessible in its youth, but doesn’t start to develop its true character until around the age of 20 (the ’89 is still a baby). Gorgeous stuff to say the least.

  • Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2011 (3x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

Already forward and approachable (especially by this cuvee’s standards), the 2011 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage À Jacques Perrin offers up classic blueberry, violets, beef blood and earthy, mineral qualities on the bouquet. Downright sexy on the palate, with full-bodied richness and a voluptuous, mouth-filling texture, it nevertheless has ample tannin and concentration, all of which build nicely on the palate. While it will have upward of three decades of longevity, it will be one of the more approachable Hommage A Jacques Perrins in its youth as well.

  • Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin 2012 (3x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (99)

The wine of the vintage is the Perrins' 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin, which has a classic, sexy, accessible style yet is also going to age beautifully. Massive amounts of smoked black fruits, ground pepper, iodine, truffle, and bloody meat all emerge from this inky colored behemoth. With full body, building tannins, no hard edges, and a rock star of a finish, it’s primary and youthful, but incredible. Ideally, it would be given another 4-5 years of bottle age and will keep for another 3 decades or more. It’s an awesome wine!

Extremely aromatic with blueberries, blackberries, and flowers. Full- bodied, dense, and rich yet agile and exciting. The tannins are seamless and beautiful. The finish shows stones and spices. The ancient mourvedre in the blend gives this wine elegance. Incredible depth. So drinkable now but goes on for minutes. Fantastic Hommage from a more challenging vintage.

I was shocked at the quality of the 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin and I can’t think of another wine that comes close to this level of depth, concentration and richness in the vintage. Its inky color is followed by sensational notes of roasted herbs, licorice, caramelized meats and layers of black and blue fruits. Rich, full-bodied, thick and unctuous, hats off to the Perrin family for this incredible effort! Give bottles 4-6 years of cellaring and drink over the following two decades.

The wine of the vintage. Compelling in every sense of the word, the wine is incredibly dark in color. The aromatics kick off with an amazing display of spices, herbs, wet earth, leaf, pepper, grilled meat, black raspberry, kirsch and plum notes. The weight, density and intensity on the palate coats your taste receptors, yet retains its lush, silky texture. The seamless finish leaves the 60 second mark in its wake. Very darkly coloured indeed. An extraordinarily deep and Mourvèdre-heavy fug of a scent; deep, but so fresh and searching. It's not overly full-bodied or heavy. Great surging acidity. It's tannic and will take a long time to soften, but promises great freshness and a long life - don't open too young. Around 60% of the blend comes from old-vine Mourvèdre from the Courrieux vineyard. Grapes are destemmed, fermented in tronconic wooden vats using natural yeasts after a brief cold maceration with regular punching down.

Chateauneuf du Pape, in the Rhone, pioneered the Appellation Controlee system by drawing up the first rules in 1923 regulating production, providing a prototype for others. This regulated yields, alcohol levels and what grapes could be grown where. The Rhone has gone through a resurgence with more of its appellations distinctive identities being asserted and respected.
