Bright medium red. Candied raspberry, blueberry, blood orange, peony, crushed stone and white pepper on the nose. Like liquid silk on the palate, offering an uncanny combination of sweetness and energy. High-pitched flavors of red cherry, blackcurrant and fresh flowers carry through on the long finish, which features youthfully chewy tannins and a saline nuance. Quality-wise, this really isn't a second wine at all; in fact, in 2011 it's better than many classified growthsInc. VAT£104.52 -

The 2013 La Petite Eglise, which Denis Durantou poured from magnum since this is how the entire production was bottled, has a precise and fragrant bouquet with crushed stone scents filtering through the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, tensile and fresh in the mouth, not powerful or deep, but lively and playful from start to finish. This is worth seeking out.Inc. VAT£207.12 -

The 2014 La Petite Eglise, pure Merlot picked on 3 October, is always a little gem and probably deserves more respect from cognoscenti. It has a gorgeously pure bouquet with ebullient red berry fruit, perhaps showing now more blue fruit, since I last tasted it. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin, pure red cherry and strawberry coulis intermingled with cold stone and a touch of blood orange. There is wonderful precision on the finish. This is just superb and doubtless great value.Inc. VAT£283.24 -

Denis Durantou's 2015 La Petite Eglise is just as compelling from bottle as it was from barrel. Classy, polished and super-refined in every way, the Petite Eglise is all class. The bright red cherry, hard candy, mint and rose petal notes are beautifully delineated throughout. Even with all of its obvious fruit density, the 2015 remains light on its feet and gracious. There is no question Petite Eglise is one of the best second wines in 2015. Actually, Petite Eglise is not really a terrific second wine, it is simply a gorgeous Pomerol. That's all there is to it.Inc. VAT£97.60 -

The 2017 La Petite Eglise is poweful and rich in the glass. Dark purplish berry fruit, charcoal, licorice, clove and lavender are some of the many nuances that infuse the 2017 with its distinctly somber personality. Unctuous and racy in feel, with superb density, the 2017 is a decidedly extroverted Pomerol. Tasting it from bottle, I have the same impression I did en primeur: it is easily better than many top bottlings.Inc. VAT£508.30 -

Dark ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of dark berries, mocha and vanilla. Big, rich and dense; starts off with lovely sweetness to its violet and black cherry flavors, then turns a bit austere and increasingly tannic at the back, finishing with a repeating floral note. The slightly tough tannins are a real shame, since they detract from what seems to be a wine of above-average density and weight in 2013.Inc. VAT£333.07 -

The 2020 La Pointe has a well-defined, quite mineral-driven bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. Black cherries, raspberry and subtle violet scents, gaining intensity with aeration. The bottle opened at the château with Eric Monneret shows more graphite/pencil lead elements. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, linear in style, fresh with a vibrant saline finish.
