The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Barrières comes from a single 0.70-hectare parcel in the north of the appellation. The fruit here is a little redder on the nose, showing touches of bay leaf and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with insistent grip on the entry. The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos Saint-Marc 1er Cru feels a little gawky at first and takes time to coalesce in the glass. More whole bunch here, though it is in proportion to the fruit concentration. It never really develops in the glass. The palate is coarse on the entry, rigid with bitter red fruit. It just needs more flesh on the finish, which has a slightly acrid note. Not sure about this but instinct tells me that it just requires time to knit together. The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Argillières 1er Cru certainly sports one of the better aromatics from the flight of wines from Prémeaux, offering detailed black and red fruit, pressed flowers (iris) and subtle mineral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, beautifully integrated new oak, impressive depth and genuine finesse and complexity on the finish. Wonderful. Vinous (94-96)
The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Argillières 1er Cru, matured with 40% whole bunch, offers fleshy ripe black cherries, raspberry coulis and marmalade scents on the nose, a touch of bloody orange (freshly squeezed) emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with layers of pure red and black fruit. Svelte, velvety and utterly seductive, it does not stint on precision and persistence on the white pepper finish. This is a brilliant Clos des Argillieres from RionIn Bond£88.00 -

The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Barrières comes from a single 0.70-hectare parcel in the north of the appellation. It doesn't quite click into gear on the nose like the wonderful 2022, rather it is perhaps more discrete with loamy scents percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a firm grip. Fine tannins and a conspicuous, almost briny marine influence develop toward the finish, lending another dimension. It coheres nicely in the glass and it should give 12 to 15 years' drinking pleasure. In Bond£100.00 -
Vinous (91+)
The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St Marc 1er Cru is showing some reduction on the nose, like many of its NSG compadres. This seems to dissipate with aeration, although the nuance and detail of Gouges's Les Pruliers tasted alongside do not materialize. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a little chewiness on the entry and good grip. There is a firmness here, a little obduracy that should be tamed with bottle age, so give it five years in the cellar, because there is potential. Vinous (92-94)
The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St Marc 1er Cru, which is the domaine's monopole of just under a hectare, contains the same amount of whole bunch fruit as the Clos des Argillières and yet its presence is completely disguised. The fruit here is a little redder on the nose, showing touches of bay leaf and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with insistent grip on the entry. This feels quite chalky in texture, not quite as harmonious as the Clos des Argillières, but with more thrust toward the finish. This is another excellent 2017 from Rion.In Bond£429.90 -

(the estate carried out three different élevages for this wine, one of them using Hungarian oak): Bright, light yellow. A note of noble reduction to the aromas of white peach, clove and musky minerals. Supple and juicy, conveying an impression of sucrosité to its dried fruit, almond paste and spice flavors. But this wine is fully dry. Finishes tactile and persistent, with a saline quality and a faint bitter edge.In Bond£590.00 -
