Masses of sweetness and still a bit of dusty tannin and introspection. There is so much here but it’s not quite ready for public display. Truly massive in scale – this wine is still a bit brutal. For the moment it’s a little dry on the end. |

I’m not convinced, and that is perhaps reflective of the vintage, yet after 15 minutes it seems to gain extra layers of complexity, and it's only then you realize that this is the real deal. The firm tannins and brilliant, chiseled minerality suggest the 2012 will drink beautifully for many years, once all the elements have come together a little more fully. In 2012 the Clos du Roi is quite dark and eccentric, but it also holds considerable promise once the imposing tannins soften and release the layers of fruit that are waiting to fully emerge. |

Plum, crème de cassis, chocolate and lavender all develop in the glass. Ample and powerful in construction, the 2015 possesses very good depth, even if it can't match the pedigree of the Chambertin. Vinous (91-93)The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, which comes from Petit Maupertui, is tightly wound on the nose, quite concentrated but just missing a little amplitude at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite peppery even though there is no whole bunch here, fine grip towards the finish. Give this 4-6 years in bottle. Has it got something else up its sleeve? |

Vinous (92-94)Dark red cherries, plums, smoke, licorice and menthol are all woven together beautifully in the 2012 Corton Clos du Roi. The firm tannins and brilliant, chiseled minerality suggest the 2012 will drink beautifully for many years, once all the elements have come together a little more fully. In 2012 the Clos du Roi is quite dark and eccentric, but it also holds considerable promise once the imposing tannins soften and release the layers of fruit that are waiting to fully emerge. |
