Vinous (93)The 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has an intriguing bouquet of dark cherries, bergamot and cassis, retaining the opulent aromatics that I noted last year. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, and quite closed at the moment, with a mineral-driven finish. This will certainly need 4–5 years to open, but there is good potential for this sturdy Clos Vougeot. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru comes from the Les Baudes Bas lieu-dit, enclosed within the Louis Jadot parcel where the soils are particularly clayey. It has a very aromatic and floral bouquet featuring bunches of red roses and peony. Wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This is very smooth and silky. Not a deep Clos Vougeot, nor is there a tremendous amount of grip, yet it feels long and tender on the finish, which lingers in the mouth. Superb. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2020 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru had just a very tiny reduction on the nose (the wine had not been racked, so expected), though there is plenty of fruit here. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine weight, slightly granular in texture with good concentration and structure towards the persistent finish. This has pedigree. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2020 Corton Les Combes Grand Cru has a very open-knit and transparent bouquet with red cherries, wet limestone and light sea spray scents. The palate is well balanced with a pleasant rondeur on the entry. Maybe a little higher in pH than its peers, smooth and pliant for a Corton, this fans out gently and reassuringly on the finish. Despite its Grand Cru status, this should be pleasurable in its youth. |

Vinous (89-91)The 2019 Pommard Vieilles Vignes is a blend of Les Cras, Les Vignots and La Chanière. It has a well-defined and quite earthy bouquet of red berry fruit. The palate is well balanced with crunchy red berry fruit laced with a splash of balsamic. The parcels ripened at different times due to variations in microclimates, and that engenders a more complex Pommard. Fine salinity toward the finish, and a minerally aftertaste. Very fine. |

Vinous (95+)The 2015 Brut Nature Les Chênes, 100% Chardonnay, is dense and powerful from the very first taste. Soaring aromatics literally explode from the glass. Vivid and dazzling in its beauty, the 2015 possesses extraordinary intensity in every dimension. Vincent Laval opened this bottle à la volée, but does not expect to add any dosage, so this note should be quite representative of the final commercial release. Chardonnay is rarely this deep, complex or pedigreed. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91)The NV (2023) Extra-Brut Garennes is a blend of vintages 2023 back to 2013. Soft and open-knit, the Garennes caresses the palate with hints of orchard fruit, chamomile, dried flowers and spice. The lifted, ethereal style is quite attractive. This is the most open-knit of Vincent Laval's new releases. I would give it a bit of aeration. This release was aged for 11 months in French oak, with some lees-stirring. Dosage is 1 gram per liter. Disgorged: November 2025. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)Another gorgeous wine from this team is the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Lieu-Dit Pignan, which is 100% Grenache from one of the top terroirs in the appellation. It doesn't have the sheer power of the 2019, but it's finer and more elegant, offering a thrilling nose of wild strawberries, blueberries, peppery herbs, spring flowers, and exotic spices. Just incredibly pure, medium to full-bodied, and ultra-fine, with a gorgeous finish, it can be drunk any time over the coming 10-15 years. It's a thrilling example of finesse-driven Grenache. |

Vinous (92+)Palish red with a hint of amber. A bit cooler and more peppery than the Clos Saint-Denis and Clos de la Roche, with its reticent red fruit aromas complicated by herbs and menthol. Then densely packed, savory and intense, more about soil tones than primary fruit. Not a sweet style but youthfully penetrating. Finishes sweet, slightly medicinal and classically dry, with lingering salty and spicy qualities. A rather rigorous wine in the context of the vintage, but then this is Bonnes-Mares, which has traditionally been one of Burgundy's longest-aging grand crus. |
