Dried pear, hazelnut, mint, chamomile and dried flowers all grace this rich, beautifully resonant Champagne from Jacquesson. Best of all, the 742 will drink well with minimal cellaring. The 700-series Champagnes are often superb; the 742 is an especially fine edition. The blend is 59% Pinot Noir (from Aÿ, Dizy and Hautvillers) and 41% Chardonnay (from Avize and Oiry). It pours a highly reflective straw hue and is aromatically forward out of the gate, with savory appeal and notes of citrus oil as well as juicy ripe berries. The palate is juicy and inviting, with approachable silky fruit and a fine mousse. It has wonderful balance, with the warmth from the vintage, and immediacy as well as structure that should provide a good bit of longevity over the coming 10-15 years. |

Vinous (93)The 2007 Dizy-Corne Bautray is soft, silky and quite open. Lemon peel, mint, white flowers and white pepper are some of the notes that give the 2007 its distinctive brightness and energy. Equally polished on the palate, the 2007 is exceptionally silky and finessed in its tactile impression. A wine of classiness and total understatement, the 2007 should drink well for at least another 5-10 years, perhaps more. There is good brightness in the glass, but the wine’s structure is very much medium in body.
