Wine Advocate (88+)I seldom taste the regional appellations on my visits to the Domaine Dugat-Py, so when I saw the 2015 Bourgogne Cuvée Halinard on a Côte d'Or wine list, I made a point of ordering it. This is a lovely wine, wafting from the glass with a classy bouquet of red cherries, cassis, grilled meat and rich soil, subtly framed by a judicious touch of recently used oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a deep core of ripe but savory fruit, fine-grained structuring tannins and a long, sapid finish, with juicy balancing acids. The substance that is this domaine's calling card is certainly present, and it will undoubtedly improve with five to ten years of bottle age—at maturity, I suspect it will embarrass many village wines. Interestingly, it's both a touch more savory and a touch more structured than the lovely 2015 Bourgogne Rouge from Domaine Claude Dugat that I tasted a few days before. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles 1er Cru is one of the lowest-producing vineyards, yielding just 20hl/ha due to the age of the vines and shallow soils. The very pure bouquet features ebullient red cherry and raspberry fruit and fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, and quite succulent, with a sorbet-like richness and vibrancy on the finish. This is very well crafted and should age with style. Excellent. |

Bernard Dugat-Py Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 is a profoundly serious white from France’s Burgundy, in the Corton-Charlemagne sub-region, crafted by one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most exacting, low-yielding domaines. The wine is sourced from Grand Cru Chardonnay on the Corton hillside, where cool exposures and limestone-rich soils are renowned for driving tension, mineral definition and longevity. Vinified with a meticulous, hands-on approach and élevage in French oak, it marries concentration to cut: citrus oil and orchard fruit layered over smoky stone, toasted hazelnut and a firm, saline spine. The 2020 vintage’s natural ripeness is channelled into a structured, age-worthy profile, finishing long and incisive. For collectors seeking precision and authority, Bernard Dugat-Py Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru offers a benchmark expression of this celebrated Grand Cru. |

Vinous (89-91)The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles 1er Cru has an intense black cherry and raspberry coulis scented bouquet, plenty of concentration here, unsurprising since the old vines yielded around 25hl/ha. The palate is well balanced. The 50% whole bunches are neatly integrated, with slightly chewy tannin and a citrus, quite focused orange rind-tinged finish. |

Excellent. |
