    Vinous (91-93)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Etelois was completely destemmed and has a reserved bouquet, quite earthy in style at first, featuring brambly red berry fruit. It becomes spicier with aeration, revealing hints of cumin and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, smooth and beautifully balanced, the oak seamlessly integrated. It lingers nicely on the finish, completing a very composed and seductive Aux Etelois.

    Vinous (92-94)

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Etelois is 100% de-stemmed and contains 14.0° alcohol. Despite a touch of reduction, there are some lovely raspberry and blueberry fruit here, laced with pressed violets. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, gentle and caressing with a velvety smooth finish. This is superb.

The Tawse Gevrey Chambertin Cherbaudes 2016 exemplifies the pinnacle of Burgundy winemaking. Sourced from the prestigious Cherbaudes vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, this Pinot Noir is meticulously handcrafted by the esteemed Tawse producer, renowned for their dedication to biodynamic viticulture. The 2016 vintage benefited from optimal weather conditions, allowing for a slow ripening that enhanced the wine's complexity and depth. Fermented using traditional cool fermentation techniques and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, it exhibits an elegant bouquet of ripe red berries, subtle spices, and earthy undertones. The palate reveals a harmonious balance of fine tannins and vibrant acidity, culminating in a long, memorable finish. Ideal for pairing with rich game dishes or savoury poultry, the Tawse Gevrey Chambertin Cherbaudes 2016 is a testament to the art of fine Burgundy wine production.

    Vinous (93-95)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a wonderful, pixelated bouquet of vibrant red berry fruit, the cool microclimate imbuing this cru with great tension and precision. That translates across onto the elegant, refined palate, which fans out beautifully on the finish. This is seriously good.

    Vinous (94-96)

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru contains no stems this year. It has a very delineated and focused bouquet with superb mineralité and tension. The palate is very well balanced with the 50% new oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine delineation and so much freshness thank to the limestone soils. Very fine tension on the tightly-coiled finish. This has great potential. Wonderful.

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-95)

Domaine Two barrels, one new and one one year old, destemmed entirely. Some of the vines date back to 1929. Mid crimson colour, fine weight of strawberry fruit, absolutely fills the middle of the mouth, with quite a persistent finish. Clearly their preferred wine of the two whereas I fractionally prefer Champeaux. Both are very good indeed in 2025.

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (94-97)

5 Star Wine. Two thirds of the vines were planted in from 1929, and the rest are not much younger. Very millerand grapes which were destemmed. Seven barrels made, which is unheard of even in the memory of the Maume family, whence these vines originated. Bright vigorous purple fruit, very sensual, picked at ideal ripeness, the fruit flowing across the palate, backed by useful tannins to finish. Drink from 2029-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Etelois is completely de-stemmed. It has a floral bouquet that bursts from the glass, revealing rose and iris petals and even a touch of lavender. The medium-bodied palate offers fleshy ripe tannins, fine acidity and a touch of allspice and clove toward the finish. There is still a touch of new oak to be subsumed, but this will be a very fine Aux Etelois.

    Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-93)

Domaine. 4 barrels, half new, 60% whole bunches, very healthy grapes here. Not too deep in colour, with a very stylish nose, albeit with the oak quite present in youth. A fair weight to this then a light sawdust note from the barrel. The intensity is more at the back of the palate and the length is impeccable.
