Château Canon-La-Gaffelière now sits proudly as a Saint Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) estate. Count Joseph Hubert von Neipperg purchased Canon-La-Gaffelière in 1971, and the von Neipperg family remain the owners today. Currently, Stephan von Neipperg manages Canon-La-Gaffelière as well as several other Saint Émilion estates owned by the family. Château Ausone is visible from certain points on the property. The vineyards are farmed using 100% organic methods. The small 19.5ha vineyard is planted with 52% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. The old vines average close to 50 years of age. They also have much older vines which are close to 80 years old. Although this Saint Émilion estate is situated close to many great names in the appellation, before Stephan Von Neipperg took over in 1983, it was never considered in the same league. This is no longer the case, and Canon-La-Gaffelière sits only just below the four Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) properties today (Ausone, Cheval Blanc, Angélus and Pavie).
