Cerbaiona

Cerbaiona has been one of the top names in Brunello among lovers of fine Italian wines for decades. This longevity comes down to the ability to combine classicism and modernity in perfect balance and is a testament to the influence of visionary owner Diego Molinari. One of Italy's most deeply traditional regions, Molinari has been able to produce elegant wines with the classic aromatics of stewed black cherry, forest floor and wilted flower petals that remain elegantly polished and poised.

Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino 2012 (1x150cl)

Wine Advocate (95)

Cerbaiona's 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is a nuanced and delicate wine that offers ample power, intensity and length. What the wine does best is paint a portrait of the grape in its most pure and naked state. It offers crisp outlines with loads of wild berry, blue flower and moist earth on the inside. That balanced ensemble of flavors adds to the long and polished persistence you feel in the mouth. Give this wine another 10 years of aging to best appreciate its slow evolution and budding complexity.

Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino 2013 (1x150cl)

Jancis Robinson (17.5+)

Cask sample 1: Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Still a little progress, but finer on the nose than the 2012. Subtle cherry and a hint of tea leaves. Proper Burgundian in style, think Marroneto but with added ripeness. Spectacular balance and ends on austere tannins. This just needs more time but is already exciting. Cask sample 2: A shade deeper. More slumbering and with a little more concentration on the nose than cask sample 1. Intense, ripe raspberry and oatmeal notes. Juicy and almost a little racy, and with firmer tannins than sample 1, and a touch bitter at this stage. Shares breed and elegance with no 1, even if the tannins are more upfront. Yet the length and elegance are impressive.

Cerbaiona di Diego Molinari Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010 (6x75cl)

Wine Advocate (98)

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is an absolutely distinctive wine and one unlike this producer has ever released. It feels radically different in terms of concentration, intensity and complexity. I was blown away by the beautiful and profound sense of inner harmony on display here. The wine puts on an epic showing of aromas that span from the simple ripe cherry and blackcurrant to the most ethereal tones of balsam herb, root beer and licorice. In between, are hearty aromas of cured tobacco and smoked meat. It really has it all along the entire Sangiovese spectrum. In the mouth, the wine offers similar complexity with thick extraction backed by sweet and sour layers of fruit and tannic structure. If you are looking for outstanding Brunello, look no further. This is one of the top three wines of the vintage.

Cerbaiona Rosso di Montalcino 2015 (6x75cl)
Inc. VAT: £406.07
2015

Cerbaiona Rosso di Montalcino 2015 (6x75cl) Incredible purity of bouquet; wild cherry, red licorice, dried herbs and soft earth tones – it is both fine and intense. Sweet and ripe on the attack, crisp acidity then kicking in to balance the generous fruit. Tannins are fresh, defined and well - integrated. Although suave, it is authentic and offers plenty of nuances. The finish is long and polished - it has longevity that other Rossos only dream of, but also delights immediately.
