Once again there is a sufficient amount of reduction to warrant a thorough aeration. By contrast there is a lovely vibrancy and freshness in the mouth with plenty of sauvage character present on the velvety and caressing big-bodied and muscular flavors that coat the mouth thanks to the abundance of dry extract that also serves to buffer the very firm tannins on the moderately austere, serious and hugely long finish. As good as this is though it's not clear at this very early juncture whether it will ultimately surpass the Bressandes. Still, both possess outstanding development potential and are of first-rate quality.

Chandon de Briailles Corton Grand Cru Les Bressandes 2012 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (93+)

(50% vendange entier): Medium red. Black cherry and cranberry fruit aromas show an almost candied quality, with spice and stone nuances providing lift. Dark fruits perked up by white pepper and minerals on the intense palate. Finishes with pronounced minerality, excellent length and no hardness. I would not be surprised if this very precise wine shut down in the bottle.

Chandon de Briailles Corton Grand Cru Les Bressandes 2013 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (91-93)

The 2013 Corton Bressandes Grand Cru feels a little more nuanced and understated, but more complex with more mineralité than the Corton Maréchaudes. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe black cherry, pomegranate and blackcurrant fruit with a shard of flint toward the finish. This is very harmonious, beautifully focused with a sophisticated finish that attests to the pedigree of this vineyard. This would be my pick of Chandon de Briailles 2013s.

Chandon de Briailles Corton Grand Cru Les Bressandes 2017 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92-94)

The 2017 Corton Bressandes Grand Cru is lovely, wafting from the glass with notes of dark fruits, nori, licorice, rich soil, blood orange, rose hip and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and satiny, its fine-grained tannins largely concealed in a gourmand core of succulent fruit, concluding with a saline, mineral finish. Long on complexity and character, this is a terrific Corton Bressandes.

Chandon de Briailles Corton Grand Cru Les Marechaudes 2013 (12x75cl)

    Vinous (90-92)

(vinified with 30% whole clusters; this finished its malolactic fermentation in August): Bright, dark red. Aromas of cherry, flowers, spices and pepper are lifted by a pungent limestone topnote. Juicy, sappy and sweet; more evolved and showy today owing to the earlier malo. The building tannins are firm but elegant and not at all dry, with the finish delivering lovely length and grip. I like the influence of the stems here.

Densely packed, fine-grained and very ripe but with a more restrained sweetness than the estate's premier crus, no doubt due in part to the greater use of stems. But this is deeper. Finishes with a firm spine of ripe, chewy, pliant tannins and excellent length.

Wonderfully fine-grained, savory and vibrant, with intense berry fruit energized by saline minerality. An elegantly styled Corton grand cru with terrific definition but no shortage of richness. A complex bouquet of ripe red fruits, warm spices, dried flowers, blood orange and raw cocoa introduce the 2017 Corton Les Maréchaudes Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, satiny wine with silky tannins, a juicy core of fruit and a long, chalky finish. This is an elegant and classy Maréchaudes that should enjoy a broad drinking window. It was already bottled when I tasted it.

    Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (89-92)

(from a cool site picked near the end of the harvest here): Very good deep red. Pungent aromas of raspberry, red cherry, crushed stone and rose petal. Very fresh, dry and classic, with distinctly darker flavors of black raspberry, bitter chocolate and minerals. The longest and most saline yet of this range, giving off complex finishing notes of dark berries, coffee, licorice, minerals and mint. Just 5% new oak here, vs. 10% for the Corton grand crus.

Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses Rouge 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (90-92)

The 2019 Pernand-Vergelesses Ile de Vergelesses 1er Cru was more muted on the nose, dark berry fruit mingling with autumn leaves and earthy notes. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins on the entry. This has more substance than the preceding Savigny Les Lavières, and more grip, with subtle mushroom notes combining with red fruit on the finish. This should drink well over the next 10–12 years.

Chandon de Briailles Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavieres 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (89-91)

The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru shows evident whole bunch on the nose that slightly occludes the terroir expression, yet it is fresh and transparent. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp raspberry and blackberry opening. Leafy red fruit combines with a touch of graphite toward the finish. A nimble Savigny with a peppery finish. Should drink well over the next decade.

Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses Rouge 2011 (12x75cl)
