Château Clos Puy Arnaud
About Château Clos Puy Arnaud
Château Clos Puy Arnaud is all about the fourth-generation owner and winemaker, Thierry Valette. Hailing from the aristocratic Valette family that possesses Troplong Mondot, he was previously the owner of Château Pavie.
Forging out on his own after the sale of Pavie, he had long had his eyes on a comparable limestone plateau terroir near St-Émilion. Ever the man of action, Valette acquired Clos Puy Arnaud in 2000.
The Winemaking and the wine
Driven to produce a perfectly harmonious wine that reflects both the soil and nature, several modifications and improvements have been implemented at the property. Vineyards are tended using strict biodynamic principles, and the entire winemaking process is completed using gravity, indigenous yeast, cold fermentation in cement vats, and gentle extractions.
Made from 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, Clos Puy Arnaud is one of those " benchmark wines " (DC) for judging the success of any vintage in Bordeaux, according to Jane Anson of Decanter.
