    Conti Costanti

    About Conti Costanti

The Costanti family has owned this 10 hectare estate for more than 200 years. The current proprietor, Andrea Costanti, has ushered in a new age of unparalleled excellence at the property through hard graft and savvy upgrades to the cellar and vineyard management. Now at the very zenith of Montalcino, Conti Costanti is consistently rivalling its most illustrious neighbour, Biondi Santi.

Located in the cooler North-Eastern area of Montalcino, Conti Costanti has historically found ripeness difficult to achieve at the lofty 380 and 450 meter altitude at which their vines sit. When Andrea originally began working in the vineyards in the early eighties, this was seemingly an inevitability with which the estate was forced to live. Today, however, with an increasing number of regions expressing concern regarding the advance of Global Warming, increased temperatures in the region are balanced by the cold currents that blow through the hillside vineyards of Conti Costanti at night. One man's loss is another's gain, and this tension between warm and cool is allowing the Constanti family to produce incredibly perfumed, ripe and concentrated fruit which becomes breathtaking wine.

    2015

Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2015 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (98)

After sitting out the 2014 vintage, Andrea Costanti calls 2015 a beautiful year and one of the best in the history of Brunello. He deemed it exceptional enough to craft a Riserva (to be released in 2021) yet his classic Brunello hasn't suffered for it. In fact, it's one of the greatest successes of the vintage. Gorgeous, seductive aromas are already expressive but still youthful. Cherry and plum are enveloped by exotic spice and a faint smokiness. The palate is plush and velvety with layers of powdery tannins that build, and tangy acid that cleanses the palate. Hedonistic but brilliantly balanced, it is hard to resist now but the best is definitely yet to come.

Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino 2017 (6x75cl)

    Wine Enthusiast (97)

Extremely elegant and focused, this compelling wine defies the heat of the vintage, starting with a heady fragrance of ripe dark-skinned berries, violet, camphor, dark spice and whiffs of crushed herbs. On the linear, elegantly structured palate, tightly woven but extremely polished tannins accompany juicy Marasca cherry, blood orange, licorice and white pepper while fresh acidity keeps it balanced and fresh. Inc. VAT: £629.15
    2016

Conti Costanti Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 (3x75cl)

    Vinous (98)

A deeply sensual bouquet of freshly sliced plums, crushed violets, mentholated herbs and Tuscan dust rises up from the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. This is deeply textural while also cool-toned and refined, with mineral-tinged red and black berries cascading across a core of brisk acidity. Tension builds throughout, as grippy tannins mount toward the close, nicely contrasted by a burst of sour citrus. There’s a crystalline structure to the 2016 that tempts the imagination as to what the future will bring, and it tapers off long, youthfully poised, yet also remarkably fresh. Time will only increase the depths of the 2016 Riserva, a wine that I seriously look forward to tasting again in five to ten years.

    2018

Conti Costanti Rosso di Montalcino 2018 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino is very pretty, showing musky, bright cherry, dried roses and savory spice. There’s remarkable purity here, with soft textures giving way to tart wild berry fruit complemented by zesty acids. It’s dry and lightly structured throughout the finale with lasting inner florals and a twang of sour citrus. This is far from your typical Rosso. The Costanti Rosso is a barrel selection that matures for one year in a combination of 60% tonneaux and 40% new 35-40 hectoliter barrels.
