Champagne Delamotte
About Champagne Delamotte
Founded in 1760, Champagne Delamotte ranks as one of the five oldest champagne houses neighbouring the legendary Champagne Salon. Based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, it was acquired together with Salon by the Laurent-Perrier group in 1986 and both champagne houses eventually brought under the same management team in 1988. At the moment, Michel Fauconnet is the chef de cave for both Champagne Salon and Champagne Delamotte.

Wine Advocate (94)Delamotte’s 2007 Blanc de Blancs Millésimé Collection, disgorged in early 2023 without dosage (analytically containing around three grams of residual sugar), is showing beautifully. A high-acid vintage that often delivered rather austere wines, it has matured very well and is now drinking at full generosity. Exploding from the glass with aromas of lemon tart, burnt sugar and roasted hazelnut, it is medium to full-bodied, laden with racy acidity and chalky extract and concludes with a defined, toasty finish. It drinks so well that there is little reason to lay down the bottles. The only regret is that Delamotte keeps so little for late release. |

Wine Advocate (95)The finest young wine I've encountered from Delamotte, the 2008 Blanc de Blancs unfurls in the glass with an expressive bouquet of freshly baked bread, lemon oil, green apple, oyster shell and mandarin. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, textural but incisive, with superb concentration and depth at the core and a long, penetrating finish. Less autolytic in style than the 2004, some 60,000 bottles were produced, around a third less than in an average vintage. This bottle was disgorged a year ago with seven grams per liter dosage. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (95)5 Star Wine. Another fine release from Delamotte. Stone-fruits to the fore, with emerging toasty aromas. Vivacious, mouth-watering and devilishly moreish. This is one of the finest Grand Marque expressions of the macro terroir of the Cote des Blancs and a relative bargain. |

Wine Advocate (92)Delamotte's 2018 Blanc de Blancs is only the fourth edition since 2008. Since Michel Fauconnet found it expressive earlier, it was disgorged after four and half years of aging on the lees (as opposed to the six years typical of previous editions) with a dosage of 5.5 grams per liter. Sourced from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Oger, Cramant, Chouilly and Oiry, it comes from a lower-acid vintage that’s charming and inviting, revealing aromas of tangerine, dried white flowers and pear. Full-bodied, generous and even powerful, it is underpinned by ripe yet vibrant acidity. It will offer a broad drinking window, but to minimize the vintage signature and maximize reflection of its origins, a few extra years under cork are advisable. |

Vinous (91)(50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier, with 7 g/l dosage): Bright straw. Vibrant aromas of lemon pith, pear skin and honeysuckle, with a chalky topnote. Dry, sharply focused lemon and lime flavors become deeper with air and pick up brioche and ginger nuances. Firm, chewy and dry, finishing with very good clarity and stony persistence. |
