Don Melchor
About Don Melchor
Don Melchor produces some of the most consistently highly rated Cabernet Sauvignon in the world. Helmed by Enrique Tirado, working hand in hand with top Bordeaux consultant Eric Boissenot, this Alto Maipo Valley estate sits 650 metres above sea level on an ancient alluvial terrace left by retreating Andean glaciers. Planted almost entirely (90%) with Cabernet Sauvignon, Dol Melchor's terroir is the ideal combination of rocky soils and cooling breezes blowing down from the Andes for these 30-year-old vines.
One of the select group of Chilean estates pioneering utterly world-class wines alongside the likes of Seña, Almaviva and Viña Chadwick. Don Melchor is simply "the benchmark for Chilean wine", according to Wine Advocate. Decanter has drawn a direct parallel between the quality of Don Melchor and the best Cabernet Sauvignon terroirs of the world, asserting that Don Melchor “stands next to the best wines in the world based on Cabernet Sauvignon, including those of Bordeaux and the Napa Valley” (Decanter).
