It is no secret that Elena Fucci has made a name for herself as the undeniable superstar of the previously off the radar Southern Italian region of Basicalita, with her outsanding wines which showcase the amazing potential of the Aglianico grape. Her unique site on the south side of the Vulture mountain boasts vines of 60+ years old amongst the layers of volcanic soil and clay, all of which foster an incredible complexity in the wine.
The Wine Advocate's Monica Larner is one of the more balanced critics when it comes to lavishing praise, generally reserving the most effusive comments for moments of true inspiration. That's why we are so excited about Elena Fucci's wines, described by Larner as "a beacon of hope and a symbol of the greatness... in this forgotten land." If that's not effusive then we don't know what is.
