    2008

    Eugenie Clos-Vougeot Grand Cru 2008 (6x75cl)

    Stephen Tanzer - Vinous (93-96)

Good deep red. Soil-driven aromas of minerals, brown spices and earthy underbrush. Large-scaled, rich and deep, with a powerful spiciness and outstanding energy in a silky, seamless package. This very unevolved and unforthcoming wine is most impressive today on the extremely long, rising, firmly tannic aftertaste, which offers outstanding punch and goes on and on. This will need at least a decade in the cellar.

    2014

    Eugenie Clos-Vougeot Grand Cru 2014 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (94+)

Good dark red. Cool, youthfully inexpressive nose dominated by black cherry and smoky minerality; the strictest of these 2014s today (Mallard described it as Cistercian). Densely packed and very rich but classically dry, with savory minerality currently holding the upper hand over the wine's fruit. This extremely backward wine is also showing its new oak element (85%) in the early going, with the firmly tannic finish displaying a note of caramel along with a strong impression of saline dry extract. Today it's the Grands-Echézeaux that sings.

    2017

    Eugenie Clos-Vougeot Grand Cru 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (94)

The 2017 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is well defined and precise, with cranberry, raspberry and vibrant red cherry scents that soar from the glass. The oak here is very well assimilated. The well-balanced palate offers fine but firm tannins that frame the black cherry and raspberry fruit. Lovely tension and mineralité on the finish, which delivers just the right amount of spice and length. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

    2014

Eugenie Echezeaux Grand Cru 2014 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (90-92)

The 2014 Echézeaux Grand Cru, like the Brûlée, was quite closed on the nose when I tasted it. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, slightly chewy tannin at the moment. This feels quite masculine, with a strong tannic backbone, nicely focused but in need of some serious bottle age. It needs to lighten up a little, stretch its wings and breathe.
