    Champagne Franck Bonville

    About Champagne Franck Bonville

Originally grape growers in the Côte de Blancs, the Bonvilles started producing their own champagnes with fruit from the Grand Cru villages of Avize and Oger, and is currently run by Olivier Bonville. Bonville specializes in Chardonnay, producing all his white champagnes with that single variety as he exploits all the benefits that the Côte de Blancs terroir bestows upon the Chardonnay grape.

There’s a slope in Champagne that produces magic. Spanning 12 miles of chalk-rich soils, the Côte de Blancs is home to magnificent Chardonnay vineyards.” - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast Magazine

    The Wines

There are 17 Grand Cru villages in Champagne, 6 of which are located in the Côte de Blancs alone and this series of Bonville’s champagnes come from 3 of these villages, namely Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. Oliver has produced these champagnes to highlight the different expressions from these villages with 2012 as the first vintage of the “Pur” series, and these have caught the attention of Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate):

Having tasted the three newly created village Blanc de Blancs from the family domaine Franck Bonville in Avize (Côte des Blancs), I was truly excited not just about their exceptional brightness, freshness and finesse but also the specific terroir characters of each cuvée—each one assembles two or three plots located in the grand crus of Avize, Oger and Mesnil. Fourth-generation winemaker Olivier Bonville, who took over the family house in 1996, waited until the 2012 vintage to create the "Pur" terroir series. All the wines—Pur Avize, Pur Oger and Pur Mesnil—were aged under cork for five years before the disgorgement in April this year, with an Extra Brut dosage of two grams per liter.
