Francois Carillon
The Carillon family are a famous winemaking family who trace their roots in Puligny-Montrachet back to the c16th! Indeed, Jehan Carillon – the first winemaker in this illustrious line – was born in 1520 in Puligny.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-93)Pale lemon and lime in colour. The difference in bouquet compared to the village Chassagne is a slight additional muscularity in bouquet. There is finesse too for this soil. One plot 50+ years old, the other 2003. A little fresh lime at the finish after pure white fruit. Tasted: November 2021 |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)Mid lemon yellow. This is slightly more perfumed than its neighbour on the nose, and with a striking liveliness on the palate, an excellent balance, a very light menthol here, this will be an excellent Champgains. Tasted: November 2021 |

Wine Advocate (92-94)The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes unwinds in the glass with aromas of pastry cream, crisp orchard fruit, honeycomb and white flowers. On the palate, it's full-bodied, broad shouldered and powerful, with a dense, blocky profile that is classic Combettes. When I tasted it, the wine was quite reserved and less advanced in its élevage than most of Carillon's other cuvées, but its potential is clearly considerable. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-94)Mid lemon and lime colour. Here the peaches are a little heavier, still white. Plump fruit through the middle, wearing a large white woolly overcoat, a little acidity behind. Not fundamentally as powerful as Folatières. |

Vinous (92)The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru is well defined on the nose, taut and quite austere and stony, initially delivering moderate intensity but gaining in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and slithers of white peach mixed with nectarine. Quite a seductive and pretty La Folatières that embraces the warmth of the summer but maintains tension and mineralité. This is enticing and promising. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)A sunny spot with hydric stress under the very stony white soil, the 2020 Folatières still yielded 40 hl/ha. Fine mid yellow colour. The nose expresses power, not detail. 14.2% alcohol but does not taste out of balance, indeed there is marvellous heart to this, a little white peach but with a crispness attached, not over exotic. Not for the faint of heart but still very successful. Ten years at least please! Tasted: November 2021 |

Vinous (91)Pale, bright yellow. A bit deeper-pitched and more subdued on the nose than the Combettes, offering scents of fresh apricot, peach, vanillin oak and spices. Fat, pliant and broad, with its fruit sweetness leavened by saline minerality. Finishes reasonably firm, with good length and lift. This wine shows more mineral energy here than the Champs-Gains or Combettes. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)Excellent deep mid lemon yellow. More backward bouquet, more vivacity. Powerful but has retained freshness. More greengage than yellow plum, more evident acidity, again a very powerful wine that is really going to need time in bottle. Tasted: November 2021 |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-93)The colour is a thrilling bright daffodil yellow. There is more weight to the nose but not necessarily more class. Taking into account the location with three metre high walls trapping the warm aur, François picked four days before the main harvest. The wine is juicy with a little oak showing, less racy than the regular Puligny, and the fruit sits a little further back on the palate. Less classic but broadly in the same class! Tasted: November 2021 |
