The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes 1er Cru has a fragrant, floral bouquet of ebullient red berry fruit infused with rose petals and incense. I like the delineation here. The clean, precise palate is well balanced with supple tannin, offering morello cherries, cranberry and a dab of soy toward the finish, which lingers in the mouth. Very fine.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs feels a little static on the nose compared to its peers, dark fruit, broody and sultry. The palate is medium-bodied with a candied opening, veins of orange zest interwoven through the red fruit with commendable tension and energy on the finish. Like the Vieilles Vignes, afford this some time in bottle, two or three years, for the aromatics to unfurl.

The 2014 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a powerful nose with broody dark berry, cola-tinged fruit that need more delineation and terroir-expression--the winemaking comes through a little strongly here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, quite plush tannin and a little more...decorum...than the aromatics, as if it has just remembered that it is a Grand Cru. I appreciate the focus here on the finish; I just wish the aromatics could muster more sophistication.

The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is closed on the nose, even a little broody, offering dark berry fruit, cola and light undergrowth scents. It does not quite deliver the complexity of its peers. The palate is chewy and simple for a Grand Cru, with high-toned red fruit, but it just lacks elegance and precision on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Poissenot 1er Cru has a deep colour. The bouquet is very typical of the domaine with sumptuous, extroverted red cherries, kirsch and fig jam, attractive in some ways but missing the delineation of some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. There is a lot of volume, though it lacks finesse and sophistication. The finish comes across rather one-dimensional, for a Premier Cru. Tasted at the Domaine Direct Tasting in London.
