Champagne Gosset
About Champagne Gosset
For over four centuries Gosset Champagne has been hand crafting a house style that stems from artistry, elegance and refinement. The oldest Wine House in Champagne, Gosset was founded in Aÿ in 1584 by Pierre Gosset. In the 18th century Gosset joined their neighbours and began to make the sparkling wines for the first time. It was at this time the house adopted the unique antique flask-shaped bottle that is still used today. Winemaking at Gosset is as simple as possible and avoids malolactic fermentation to help protect the characteristics of each vineyard and cru. With their individual style Gosset seek to create wines that reflect the true characteristics from the cool climate and chalk soils that make the Champagne region unique. Gosset wines are also marked by their extended ageing and the average length of time spent in the cellar across the range is 5 years.

Vinous (94)Gosset's 2004 Extra Brut Celebris is a powerful, bracing wine. Pinot Noir-infused red stone fruits, dried leaves, mint, herbs and spice notes, along with the low dosage, give the wine its distinctive combination of power, breadth and raciness. The 2004 needs a bit of time for the bouquet to open up, but when they do, the wine is quite expressive. Now 12 years after the vintage, the 2004 Celebris offers a good bit of aromatic and flavor intensity, with the slightly mature notes that are typical for a wine of this age. Chamomile, honey and lightly roasted almond are some of the nuances that linger through to the creamy, expansive finish. The 2005 is 55% Chardonnay (from Chouilly, Cramant and Le Mesnil sur Oger) and 45% Pinot Noir (from Aÿ, Bouzy and Verzy). |

Vinous (94)The 2007 Extra-Brut Vintage Celebris is a great example of the house style. Powerful and rich, the 2007 possesses tremendous vinous intensity, buffered by low dosage that gives the wine ts sense if classic austerity. Orchard fruit, apricot, tangerine oil and white flowers develop with a bit of coaxing. The Celebris is a big, broad-shouldered Champagne for the dinner table. |

Falstaff (98)The nose opens with a slightly floral but exquisitely fragrant nose of orange cake, evocative of golden crust, with air a hint of iron-oxide appears. The palate presents ripest apricot on a generous, rounded full-fruited but precise body. Supremely creamy mousse underlines soaringly brisk freshness. |

Wine Advocate (91)The citrus-yellow Gosset NV Extra-Brut (dosage: five grams per liter) is an assemblage of Chardonnay (32%), Pinot Noir (45%) and Pinot Meunier (23%) sourced in 11 villages. This is a deliciously lithe, fresh, elegant, well-structured and creamy-textured cuvée with charmingly round fruit and stimulating mineral grip in the pure, fresh, super precise and delicate finish. This is an impressive cuvée and a great effort at this price point! Tasted in August 2018; lot number unknown. |

Wine Advocate (93)Dressed in a unique color that I would describe as a salmon pink with orange (or onion) reflections, Gosset's NV Grand Rosé Brut – a blend of 58% Chardonnay and 42% Pinot Noir, 8% red wine inclusive) – opens with a highly delicate and matured, vinous bouquet of red fruits. Pure, light, highly elegant, round and intense on the fruity-mineral palate, this is a picture-book Champagne of great finesse and delicacy. The persistent finish is lovely, pure and extremely stimulating in its salty/mineral freshness; whereas the fruit is articulated in an aristocratic reticence and perfectly integrated into the noble, overall expression. No malolactic fermentation. This is the kind of sample that I don't want to give away, but drink for myself. Gorgeous! |

Decanter (93)Gosset is the oldest house in Champagne, and is a favourite among wine trade insiders. This non-vintage cuvée is redolent with the aromas of mellow red apple fruit. It has beautifully subtle autolysis on the palate, with creamy apple and plum flavours, and a great precision at the same time. |
