Greywacke

Greywacke began in Marlborough in 2009 by Kevin Judd, who as head winemaker at Cloudy Bay for 25 years helped them become so sought after. The name comes from the stone which makes up much of New Zealand’s bedrock. Their fruit is sourced from prime sites in the Wairu Plains and Southern Valley. It is mostly Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir but they also do limited edition releases of other varieties.

Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc 2019 (12x75cl)

Wine Anorak (92)

Complex nose of pear, spice and a touch of fig, with some fine green herbal hints. The palate is nicely dense with sweet fruit (pear, peach, some citrus) and good acidity. It’s rich but compact, with the focus on the ripe fruit characters and Sauvignon’s green side firmly in a background role. Sophisticated stuff with some bass and middle as well as the Marlborough treble.
