Jean-Luc Colombo
About Jean-Luc Colombo
Jean-Luc Colombo’s estate is perched high among the dizzying schist slopes of their Cornas vineyards. This family-run estate has been praised by Wine Advocate for fashioning “a bevy of brilliant Cornas” that “continue to go from strength to strength”.
Named “a talented winemaker” by Robert Parker (Wine Advocate) and described as “the irrefutable modernist of the Rhone Valley”, Jean-Luc Colombo has worked tirelessly through his own Domaine and as a consultant oenologist across Southern France to champion the brilliant wines from the region.

Vinous (89)Deep ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of raspberry, cherry, violet and game. Dense, ripe and sweet, with fruit currently overshadowed by its strong oak component. Finishes with firm but suave tannins and very good length. This is very attractive red wine, but I'm not sure I would identify it blind as Cornas. |

Vinous (88)Saturated ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of slightly stewed red and black fruits. Then bright and fresh in the middle palate, with youthfully clenched currant and oak flavors. The finish shows some tarry oak and elevated wood tannins. Offers good intensity and texture but is there real soul? |

Wine Enthusiast (96)This inky, intensely plummy Syrah balances rich, pulsating black-fruit flavors against lip-smacking cassis and accents of tapenade, charcuterie and blood. Sourced from 90-year-old vines and aged 22 months in oak (15% new), the penetrating wine is framed by fine, firm tannins and lingering notes of vanilla, chocolate and earth. |
