    Jean-Noel Gagnard

Domaine Jean-Noel Gagnard is based in Chassange-Montrachet, Burgundy.  Jean-Noel’s daughter, Caroline l’Estime took over the estate and has really fine tuned it. Their small team focus on the terroir. They make four excellent cuvees that display some of the most elegance and richness in the Chassagne

Jean Noel Gagnard Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2000 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92+)

(aged in 80% new oak, vs. about 33% for the premier crus) Sweet nose dominated by clove, poire and resiny oak. Dense and sappy but tightly coiled and closed in on itself. Powerful but imploded today, with very good acidity leavening the thick flavors. Impressively long on the finish. This really needs a good seven or eight years of patience, while Gagnard premier crus should be at their best in three to five years.

Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93)

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has the most backward nose of the domaine’s Premier Cru. Les Caillerets demands the most coaxing, opening almost reluctantly with crushed rock, pressed yellow flowers and lemon verbena scents. The palate is taut and linear, very fresh and focused. The propitious terroir really shows though here, with a brisk and lightly spiced, complex finish. Very persistent in the mouth, this is a superb showing that may warrant a higher score in the future.
