    Latour-Martillac

    About Château Latour-Martillac

Château Latour-Martillac is a rare property in Bordeaux, owned exclusively by the Kressmann family since the late 1800s. Currently in the hands of Tristan and Loïc Kressmann, the siblings continue the tradition of blending Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot whilst expanding their efforts through the addition of some exquisite Petit Verdot planted in one of the best gravel plots on the Pessac-Léognan plateau.

    Latour-Martillac 2017 (6x75cl)

    Neal Martin - Vinous (91-93)

The 2017 Latour-Martillac Blanc has a lifted linden, Granny Smith apple and nettle scented bouquet that opens nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, fresh and focused with a satisfying sense of tension. It is a subtle Pessac-Léognan Blanc, unfolding in the glass to reveal light nectarine and stone fruit notes towards the finish. This is a strong performance from Latour-Martillac and it comes recommended. NM

    Latour-Martillac 2019 (6x75cl)

    Jeb Dunnuck (96)

I loved the 2019 Château Latour-Martillac, and I under-rated it from barrel. Revealing a dense ruby/plum color as well as a gorgeous bouquet of blackcurrants, black cherry, smoked tobacco, gravely earth, and chocolate, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, supple tannins, and one heck of a finish. It's beautifully done and will cruise for 25+ years in cold cellars. It needs plenty of air if drinking any time soon.

The 2020 Latour-Martillac offers an enticing bouquet of black fruit infused with black olive, background citric scents lending a bit of zest. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, well-integrated oak and impressive depth. This is a very assured and confident Latour-Martillac that continues their strong run of form. Perhaps one of the dark horses of the appellation in 2020, this should be on your primeur shopping list.

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)

The 2017 Latour-Martillac Blanc is powerful and quite dense in the glass, with tons of structure that gives the wine its distinctive, almost phenolic feel. Orchard fruit, citrus and floral notes develop with air, but it is the wine's sheer power that stands out most.

    Latour-Martillac Blanc 2020 (6x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)

The 2020 Latour-Martillac Blanc has a more reserved bouquet compared to its peers, but still quite compelling, with crushed rock infusing the dried yellow flowers, white peach and chai tea scents. I could nose this all day. The very well-balanced palate is quite intense, offering a fine bead of acidity and plenty of tension and mineralité toward the saline finish. If I was going to spend my money on one dry white Bordeaux this year, it might well be this.
